D&D General Which era and style/flavor of the Forgotten Realms do you play in?

I play in the "5e Era," because, as I explained in the thread ragging on the SCAG, I know just about nothing about the Forgotten Realms. The SCAG gave me what I need without getting bogged down in decades of lore. In short, 5e's SCAG had what I needed to play D&D in the Realms.

What are you reading this year 2020?

With Conan 2d20 about to hit FG (see here ), I've almost completed my Complete Conan Omnibus (all the REH Conan published stories) and am dabbling with the Conan 2d20 ruleset/books in between cases in the OR. REEEEeeeally looking forward to testing the FG ruleset for Conan 2d20 out.

D&D 5E (2014) With the release of each new setting book, the SCAG looks worse and worse...

Plus, to ride the coattails of my thread about whether or not Virtual Table Tops have affected your spending, I was very upfront about how I immediately look to see if a product has VTT support. MOST of the older settings do not have any support. SCAG jumped up like a leprechaun and said, Here I...

D&D 5E (2014) With the release of each new setting book, the SCAG looks worse and worse...

Whenever these thread pop up ragging on the SCAG, it just cements in my head that WotC went the right way in that: A) There is no pleasing everyone, 2) I thoroughly enjoyed the SCAG so yay for me! and iii) There is no C, 3, iii.:ROFLMAO:

D&D 5E (2014) With the release of each new setting book, the SCAG looks worse and worse...

This means nothing. Actually, less than nothing if at all possible. I think we've all known so-called professionals and teachers who didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. Those two things do not mean that the person in question is a SKILLED professional nor an ADEQUATE OR BETTER teacher.

D&D 5E (2014) With the release of each new setting book, the SCAG looks worse and worse...

Personally, and I can only speak for myself, I found the SCAG to be just the right size. I know very, very little about the Forgotten Realms. I had no real interest in being buried under decades of lore. SCAG gave me just what I needed when 5e was fresh to run the game using the Adventures. I...

@atanakar , nice setup. I can see your point.

VTT have affected my purchasing habits. You?

Well, numbers don't lie. I'm as special as my mom always said I was! LoL. Thanks for feeding my curiosity!

    VTTs Feel the Strain

@R_J_K75 , @LordEntrails is quite correct in that the folks at Fantasy Grounds are suuuuper helpful. They helped me look up an old license from 2004, get access to it AND transfer that old license to a friend. And all I had was just an old email that I thought was correct.

VTT have affected my purchasing habits. You?

Some background: I'm a rules reader. I admit it. I don't do a lot of playing or running of games anymore. Mostly this has to do with work and helping care for my elderly parents. It also has to do with finding a group to play with on my funky healthcare-provider schedule. So I gravitated from...

Besides D&D, what are you playing?

I really liked it as a player. My players really liked it as players. I found as a DM, though, that placing all the lines, doors, etc. to be a huge pain in the ass (I always seemed to get lots of "light leaks") and not worth the investment of time that it robbed from other parts of adventure...

D&D General Differences Between D&D Boards

@Morrus , just a heads up. Not a talk or discussion of the moderation (which I agree with). Just that your red text isn't very red (at least on my monitor) and doesn't stick out much. If I hadn't been reading every post, I wouldn't have noticed that you'd "moderated" the thread. Of course...

    Wyrmwood Gaming and COVID-19

I brought this up at the Anesthesia Department meeting here today. My chief thought it looked like something good to examine. So I'm sending in my credentials to try and get one. Anything that might keep COVID spit off me while I'm intubating it a plus in my book.

D&D 5E (2014) (+)What Ubiquitous DnD Tropes Get It Totally Wrong?

Yeah, it's a very hazy memory. Probably from an old Dragon or some such? As with all old memories, it's probably only about 30% true! LOL. I just have a very distinct memory of reading it and a light going off in my head followed by an "of course!"

D&D 5E (2014) (+)What Ubiquitous DnD Tropes Get It Totally Wrong?

Sorry, poor joke (as pointed out). I was just trying to have fun with how Drow could be pronounced either as rhyming with Cow or with Crow. Personally, it's always rhymed with cow, as it's also pronounced in the DnDbeyond app.

D&D 5E (2014) (+)What Ubiquitous DnD Tropes Get It Totally Wrong?

Actually, I seem to recall Mr. Gygax saying that they (drow) got their coloring because they are the negative picture of a wood elf. Wood elf = Dark Hair, Light Skin. Drow = Light Hair, Dark Skin. I don't think he was thinking anything other than that at the time. It wasn't an overt sorta...
