I find it a little strange that the piloting and gunnery skills would have any effect outside of a mech. I like the PbtA idea and would probably just come up with some unique playbooks and a custom feature for making one and roll with that for outside of mech play.

Yeah I have a hard time as a player in 5E. I’m a 3E/PF1 guy and it took me awhile to figure out why. Part of it is the meaty system gives me a mini game to work on if I get bored of the GMs campaign (something that happens a lot to me) and the 5E mini game is too lite.

I prefer milestone but if I’m in a game using xp I prefer by the adventure or even by session end. I don’t care for minute xp awards like x for picking a lock, y for talking to somebody, and z for killing something. Over the years I found xp distracts from the larger picture and bogs the game...

It’s not about demands it’s about folks being so casual they can barely get their own character to function let alone everyone else’s. Despite all the charops discussions a lot of people have steep learning curves to the game. The default is so the most casuals can succeed in the game.
