Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

Yes it is, I forgot that. Not being a pub goer myself this has always been endlessly unhelpful!

Here's what it is really like being an independent publisher

Just outside of York but who am I to turn down a lunch offer? How about the next time I'm down your way I drop you a note? Have car will travel and all that.

Here's what it is really like being an independent publisher

Hey folks, So, it's 1.06am as I type this. And I guess I should introduce myself - my name is Stephen Hart. I run The Grinning Frog, we are an ambitious, young and small independent RPG and game publisher in the UK. We have a reputation for putting out quite a lot of products to say we are a...

Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

Funny how a name looks strange/amusing when you are not used to it. Traffic circles? Rotaries? Fabulous names. Funny to me but then 'roundabouts' likely seems strange to others. I do love language.

D&D General Changing your Rest paradigm is the single biggest, yet smallest, change you can make

I have always made it a requirement that a location is 'safe' before long rest benefits but I hadn't thought of involving the survival skill. I like that a lot. Nice one.

Indie Publishers, what are you working on for 2023?

This month I've got two things bubbling away. (Well, plus The Oracle monthly RPG magazine.) First up (because it ends the soonest): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thearcanemuse/the-arcane-index-vol-2-flora-fuana-and-funga It is a collection of the above items, suitable for all fantasy...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E fans: what do you like about 4E?

Can I just say 'all of the above'. Gods, I feel like the odd man out so often when it comes to 4e. I LOVE 4e. It is my favourite RPG system and I think I'm in agreement with everything above. (So to read all the replies above makes me so happy.) My two favourite mechanics + one other point: 1)...

Kickstarter Starship Scavengers: Solo Play Space Exploration - Live NOW!

This is now only 2 backers away from my most backed project ever - which, out of over 50 campaigns is quite a big deal!

Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

So I need to remember my alphabet... man I'm so lost ;) Also, on the overall list, I forgot to put roundabouts - we have them (UK) not the US. Least not on the west coast where my wife is from. For years we talked about the 'cow udder signs' on the approach to those. Always good for a laugh.

D&D General What is player agency to you?

Player agency = player character actions make a difference (for good or ill) I thought that was fairly obvious? Although, maybe there are depths I haven't considered. I will say, it sounds like you have broader issues than 'player agency'. The communication between you and the players seems -...
  13. The Grinning Frog

Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

That's interesting because I find the grids confusing. I'm pretty sure I could find my way around any UK city but likely with a different navigation method, e.g. asking people then heading towards the 'big building over there'. So now I write that, maybe grids are the answer...
  14. The Grinning Frog

Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

My son just crashed his bike dodging a bloody pheasant on a country lane. I damned near hit a badger the other day. It's quite a thrill but ya gotta stay sharp! (He's banged up but broadly okay - the bike is not...)

Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

I married an American over twenty years ago who moved over to be with me. Yes, I am that wonderful - or maybe she was evading the tax man... erm... I might ask her tonight, anyway, there has been a two decades cultural exchange and there are a LOT of differences between the two cultures. A lot...

Kickstarter Starship Scavengers: Solo Play Space Exploration - Live NOW!

The Frog goes to space - want to come with us? There are riches to be found, although you will have to deal with aliens, environmental effects and the constant tick down of the clock. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegrinningfrog/starship-scavengers I never set out to write an RPG but...
