Typically, just a level up. Though when I’m running Traveller I tend to allow a skill bump after an adventure wraps up. That’s like 1/4 of a level or less. That said, I liked his in Dungeons and Dragons Online they had milestone bumps between levels to do what you suggest.

I guess I took all the excitement about dropping random encounters on the PCs for what appears to be stupid decisions. It just seems very old school punitive which is that “Viking hat” style?

I don’t see why. My complaint is the players being hardwired to getting stuff in an extremely boring way and the response was to lean into the boringness with random encounters as a response. Just not my style.

Meh. I’d prefer to work this out of game instead of just TPK the group for not dungeon crawling correctly while playing.

I think that highlights a good point as well. Folks who play a more old school West Marches style cant count on having a full team set of roles represented to make the game work every week. Neither could Adventure League now that im thinking about it.
