GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

I just think using modules is infinitely more work than either prepping my own, or improv. I am willing to do it with short adventures and isolated locations, but I don't have the patience to try and use a big adventure, let alone a campaign length one.

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

Since (general) you are here, what does your prep actually look like (some of you have answered this already)? I tend to fill a single empty page in my campaign notebook with sketched out ideas based on what is happening next (I am running a sandbox game and I make sure to let the PCs decide...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

Pretty much every service works this way. It kind of sucks, but it isn't unusual. Unless they actively took away things that were free before and made them into purchase-only elements (and maybe they did; I do not use HF) it just feels like a weird thing to get up in arms about. But, gamers do...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

That seems a weird thing to be mad about. Just go with the better alternative. That is like being mad at Apple because Samsung phones exist (or vice versa).

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I think high level adventures would sell better if they weren't SAVE THE WORLD adventures. You can do personal stakes at high level: gods, demons, dragons and other powerful entities still care about things beyond conquering the multiverse.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

My personal opinion is that the Art is the most compelling part of DS and if Brom isn't back, what's the point?

D&D General Converting Bg3 to Tabletop

I don't think.there is any indication it was ever anywhere on their radar. The oy reason we are seeing the BG3 characters in the FR books "DLC" is WotC was completely caught off guard by the game's success.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

That may be true, but so does making a Spelljammer or Planescape book, and WotC did that. Even more niche is Dark Sun, which seems inevitable. "not everyone likes it" in relation to high level material falls apart a bit in light of niche settings and adventures.

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

I'm trying to figure out why new features costing additional money is a bad thing.

D&D 5E (2024) Tiers of play, PCs, NPCs and narrative

Lots of people make high level play seem more daunting than it is. I think part of it is 3.x trauma, which is valid, but high level 5e is not nearly that hard. Just do it. Play high level. When you run into stumbling blocks, find or create solutions.

D&D General Converting Bg3 to Tabletop

Why there isn't a BG3 module, I will never know.

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

Typically speaking, how much time do you prep for any given unit of time you actually play? For example, when I run convention games, I typically prep for an hour to effectively run a 4 hour game slot. it is less (half an hour) if I am running something a little lighter like Shadowdark, and a...

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Great introductory DMG> I am not sure how "great" it is for utility after you have run a few sessions. I don't like the layout or organization at all. I wish they had not a Phandelver level Starter Set and put all that intro DM stuff there (and made that material available for free on beyond)...

    D&D 5E (2024) Tuning big single creatures into multi-part-creatures.

I did this to good effect for a high level, god-hunting D&D game for a convention. I tweaked the formula a little each session and finally landed on a pretty good solution. There is a thread around here somewhere.

D&D 5E (2024) Nothics should speak Common and other languages

This is a good question. What is the point of these languages? Outside of simulation purposes, what do they add to the game?

The format has or is soon changing as well: big fat quartly hardcover instead of monthly softcovers.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

A couple players from my steampunk/aetherpunk supers convention campaign Carole me into running a monthly game of it. The Arcanopolis Knights Live!

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

For clarity, I did not mean reducing the number of levels. I meant eliminating or replacing low level.abilities with higher level ones as you level, so the total number of things the players have to juggle remains manageable.

I have considered this a number of times for a convention campaign, but have yet to pull the trigger.
