D&D 5E (2024) The value of Sap Mastery

It does matter, first as you said above you can't just take the average damage, there is a probability distribution at play. Also this is a decision you make AFTER your first attack hits and AFTER you do damage with it bit before your second attack. So there is no possibility of no attacks...

D&D 5E (2024) The value of Sap Mastery

I think sap works best on a fighter, particularly because they can use it with any weapon past level 9, meaning they are not stuck making multiple attacks with sap where every attack after the first hit as no mastery. I like it on an Eldritch Knight the best. You get extra damage from the...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

All of them take longer to draw than it takes to pull a potion out of my belt. Have you ever drawn a sword or rapier? It is longer, no way around it and it is a lot more dangerous if you are fighting because of the room you need to do it effectively. I am being generous by saying a dagger or...

D&D 5E (2024) The value of Sap Mastery

No not even close. I would agree in most situations, the goal is to bring one down as soon as possible, but that does not mean an individual player focusing fire. For example, a simple scenarios - me and one ally are fighting two 15hp Hobgoblins in melee and we have a 70% chance of hitting...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Not according to the rules it isn't any longer. Compare pulling a potion from my belt to: Pulling a greatsword off my back: Less time pulling a Rapier out of a scabbard: Less time pulling a dagger out of a scabbard: about the same knocking an arrow: about the same loading a stone into a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18)

In one of my groups there is a player who regularly plays a Barbarian or Tough guy fighter and he always dumps Charisma and has no Charisma skills, yet he always wants to be the guy talking in every social encounter. DM: "Ok roll Persuasion to see if you can convince the townsfolk the suspect...

D&D 5E (2024) The value of Sap Mastery

It varies widely with number of attacks you get, number of attacks enemies get and the number of enemies you are fighting. Using sap requires a lot of situational tactical application. For example do you focus fire on one bad guy so you can bring him down or do you split your attacks to sap...

D&D 5E (2024) Diseases no longer curable with lesser restoration

Are diseases still mechanically a thing in the 2024 rules? My understanding is diseases were mostly replaced with the poisoned condition which would be removed by either of these. The few that were not replaced with poison are now a "curse" which would be removed by remove curse.

D&D General Hours actually playing RPGs, D&D?

I play between 10 hours and 30 hours a week for the last 3 years. Currently in 6 regular games, 3 weekly, one biweekly and one every now and then not really scheduled. Then occasional one shots on top of that.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Not buying this. I know from experience, when I was in my 20s I could drink a 16 oz Beer out of a glass in less than 6 seconds. With a big funnel and a hose I could drink 36 oz of beer in that time. Compared to shape shifting I think my partner would say it always took longer for me to turn...

D&D General Dnd and what has changed

I think it is its own thing, I am just saying it is closer than 3E or 4E were. It went back in that direction.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I kind of dislike that idea. I think Ranger should be the spell focused Gish, if you want to compare to the Paladin - the Paladin is a weapon user who can throw spells when needed and the Ranger should have been a spell user who can fight with weapons when needed. Also the original 1E Ranger...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

I thought you meant you could not spam it as a level 1 casting, not as a level 1 Character. My bad, I should have realized as it seems painfully obvious now.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

I cast dissonant Whispers on a Hypnotized Barbarian, getting him to not only wake up but run at the bad guy.

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

You have a point in terms of Cure Wounds. One other thing to consider though is False Life through Magic Initiate. On a Paladin, this would give you 3 castings a day for 2d4+4 (9) temp hit points. And since they are temp, you can cast them out of combat and carry them into combat. This also...

I think 5E is closer to 2E than any other version since.

D&D General Is this use of a wizard's spellbook accurate?

I agree, I've never played it that way or TBH even thought about it. But it is kind of cool and probably worth doing to allow more versatility.

D&D General Is this use of a wizard's spellbook accurate?

Technically RAW this is true in 2024 rules. You can prepare a spell as you have slots for it and you can copy it into your book as long as you can prepare it. Here is the relevant text: Prepared Spells of Level 1+. You prepare the list of level 1+ spells that are available for you to cast...
