So as the title says. I have seen a celestial bladelock in play. But the player had a good weapon and used 5.0 material to pick up racial armor and spirit shroud. Personally I lean towards controller. Bladelock is to reliant on 5.0 material and multiclassing seems almost required for armor...

They haven't been presented that way. Theres one in Candlekeep mysteries. If you study it for long enough you get +2 intelligence (max 22) and advantage on saves vs magic. That's interesting collect a few of them and yeah...... Its what I would do Give them various abilities.

I didn't say 5th level was equivalent to a epic character. I said the level 19 spells are roughly equivalent to a 3rd level spell. That's not what people are thinking of if youre playing high level. It feels completely fake for high level. Same with minions. The epic 4E level 29 powers...

You were the one who went in about them being more than a glorified spellbook. Mechanically thats basically what they are. Mostly a plot device. In universe theyre awesome. Theyre basically a database of all things magical.

You dont need to play it when its right there in black and white. Go read the 4E phb level 15-19 powers and compare them to 5E spells. They're roughly 3rd level. Hit points are similar in monsters, 4E MM creatures lack damage. Hence complaints about 4E combat taking a long time. 5E ramped...
