    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

There are six cultures, not five! The Spider-God's Bride was released in 2008, but did not include the cultures. My original blog post about the cultures is from early 2010, see The World of Xoth » Blog Archive » Cultural Archetypes The guys working on Blade of the Iron Throne approached me...

I've recently listened to a number of episodes from that podcast (both REH-related and not), and it's an excellent show in general. Highly recommended to anyone slightly interested in Lovecraft, Howard and/or roleplaying games! (y)

    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

Yes, I noticed I'm able to create hyperlinks, for example in the Table of Contents on page 2, which can then be clicked to jump to a specific chapter. But not sure how useful this is, as you need to go back to page 2 to navigate somewhere else. "Real" bookmarks are better, as they typically show...

    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

Good points. I have a bunch of Harold Lamb books and I've read several of the Cossak/Mongol stories. While they are what I would call "swords & just a touch of sorcery", they are excellent inspiration for adventures in Xoth or any other classic S&S setting. (y)

    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

Note that depending on culture, you can already do this using the rules from the Player's Guide. Examples include (GMs can of course elaborate as they see fit): Civilizeds get inspiration for spending money to impress peers or superiors Enlighteneds get inspiration for spending money on...

With inspiration as written, you can only have 1 point of inspiration so you keep saving it for "something important". If you have more points to spend, it's easier to spend one (and thus it becomes easier to remember that you have them). Check out the rule in the Player's Guide that lets you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah, it's quite a severe (but situational) hindrance. On the other hand, having a +1 permanent bonus to AC, and always having advantage on Perception, are pretty sweet benefits, so I'd say it evens out. (And the other cultures have pretty severe drawbacks as well.)...

Healing Word and Mass Healing Word can be cast anytime the above condition is met (in fact, the cultist cannot cast them in any other way). The spells do not need to be prepared and do not count against the number of prepared spells.
