D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

not entirely, the profit margin for digital products is higher, so there is a range in which they could still make more money while having lower sales. Not that they definitely are in that range...

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

So? The interview clearly was about a time during which he worked for WotC. Not sure why it would be relevant whether he works there today for this. Do you assume he just forgot everything about it when he switched jobs?

D&D's Obelisk Plotline Was Supposed to Be Resolved in Vecna: Eve of Ruin

I feel like this would have been better / more interesting than what we got. Maybe whatever they had got turned into the FR DLC And now I also wonder how close to the original idea the adventures that are currently being worked on will end up being ;)

There can also be other differences, like the resolution, the shader quality, etc. to compensate for why a game that struggles on a PS5 does not struggle on something less powerful. The two simply do not run the same version of the game, so you cannot extrapolate from just comparing the hardware.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

how much control over the narrative was there though, they did not have a spell component for some reason, apart from that they apparently could do whatever The first idea a player has not working does not a railroad make apparently they can as long as your sandbox misses one option they think...

    D&D Movie/TV There’s a Baldur’s Gate TV Show Coming!

It wasn’t my complaint so I can only speculate. To me it sounded like ‘you could have made The Lord of the Rings, instead you chose to tell the story of the hobbits after they returned to the Shire’… why choose Baldur’s Gate if you do not tell the most popular / well known story set in it

yes, that was the complaint ;)

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

so they think it is railroading because you ‘closed the borders’? No, I do not consider that railroading. To me railroading is either not having many choices / being pushed in one direction or my decisions / actions not mattering to how things progress

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

these are two very different numbers, comparing lifetime players to current fans is comparing apples to oranges. You are fine with one of WotC’s numbers but not the other without having much of a reason outside of how you feel about them. I don’t have much of a reason to mistrust one of them...

on the other hand, you will find quite a bit of overlap between 1e, 2e, and Basic sales, so the combined number is not all that meaningful

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

you definitely undervalue that overlap, also, there are not 5M 1e PHBs sold, that number is 1.5M. At 5 players per PHB, you have a maximum of 7.5M. The 5e PHB has sold about 6M copies (not counting digital), and then was replaced with a new version that is not being counted in that number. So...

pretty sure I had a German version of 1e, in the 80s, 2e once that came out. Chances are there were other languages too

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

the hard numbers are for 1e PHB sales, we do not have a hard numbers of players for any of them, and an estimate for 5e PHB sales with the lower end being well beyond the hard 1e sales, and most likely more than 1e to 4e combined
  19. mamba

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

you do not have hard number of players for 1e or 5e, you may have hard number of PHB sales for 1e, but that is about it I am not sure why WotC is cagey outside of a ‘it is always better to have some wiggle room’ approach, I however doubt that 1e sales have anything to do with it

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

it doesn’t need 10x sales to have 10x current / peak players vs whatever 1e had at its peak One difference is 5e was a ‘slow’ rise while 1e was a fast decline
