Your Most Useful and Most Used RPG Products

God I have used King's Road a lot! :) As for me, I would say the most used items are: 1. Campaign world map 2. My pair of red GM dice 3. The miniature "Rosie Cusswell" 4. And I have used the book "The Gamemaster's Book of Non-Player Characters" quite a bit when prepping lately.

D&D General The Revised Monster Manual was released 1 year ago today! How have you liked facing down and using the new monsters?

I think we had this discussion before, but that was the one thing that bothered me with the 2024 edition. I thought the 2014 edition did such a great job interconnecting the monsters to other monsters and the ecosystem in which they lived. This followed the path of the PHB species, where it was...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Even just narratively speaking, five seconds is not a lot of time for some people. I mean, just going around the table and asking someoe to describe their character, especially a specific part of their character like their boots, still takes quite a lot of players a good amount of time to come...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Wizard71, The OP has backtracked and said he used all the wrong words to describe the scenario. This was after much criticism that it was railroading by quite a few people. Take it for what it is.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Thanks. I will check it out. What about players that have difficulty remembering exactly what they can do, or always get confused about action economy? What about players that sometimes deal with choice paralysis? I mean, I get it. If you look at any criticism I have of any game, half of it...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Yea, I have run a V;tM game. I have run another campaign of Vampire for eighteen players (fun, but ugh! and never again). It still didn't run that way. But to each their own. I would love to see video of a session that does this (as I have never seen one in play).

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

100% of the time. Like, no one player ever leans over to another player and says, "Can I get you some coffee?" or "Did you take that spell when we levelled?" or "This is too easy, I think the DM has a trick up their sleeve," or "Nice roll!" I am not doubting it, and definitely do not disparage...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

True. I have never even seen a table do it! And personally, I even have a kind of hard time believing it exists or has ever existed.

    Minis for TTRPGs

Not sure if anyone mentioned this site, and while it is not a shop, it is awesome in my opinion. Miniature Gallery As for miniatures, I am with Morrus in that I like mine prepainted and assembled. I like to collect all sorts of heroes and monsters, this way players have a choice, and I have a...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I never implied the alternate scene was not vibrant. I didn't even imply it wasn't growing. I assume the more people you have playing games, the more you will have playing all types of games. And, hold onto your boots, I am happy and excited for it! Here is what you said: I replied by asking...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

That's already two of the three I mentioned. What an arbitrary stopping point. And it still doesn't take away that in the moment, the player might be enjoying themselves, and then afterwards, sit down with another player and begin to have a negative view of it because they now look at it as...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

If you're going to get this deep, then you also need to look at not just how a player feels at the conclusion, but how they felt in game, and how they feel ten-years later. During play, they may be having fun and not really consider it railroading. Once the campaign is done, they may sit down...

RPG Evolution: The Game Comes Home

Way back when we were college aged, we use to play at my friend's house. I will never forget when his mom had a friend over, and she asked his mom, "Aren't you worried about them, sitting there playing a game instead of doing regular stuff?" To which his mom instantly replied: "My son and his...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I do. How many D&D games do you see happening in game shops compared to PF2? How many online posts are about D&D as opposed to PF2? How many online tables are there for D&D as opposed to PF2? This is one of those times where you look up at the sky yell: "No one knows the real numbers!" When...

RPG Evolution: The Game Comes Home

This is definitely true. Public spaces, for people who still view them as "public" and not "theirs" need restraint: noise, ambient or battle music, cursing or jokes, and content all play a part of the game. It's one of the reasons why home games are so much more freeing. Since I host, I have...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

I'm glad it is happening at your table. Our group has a few "off track" players, but they are only off track at times. The others help them improve all the time. In the end, people improve when they are surrounded by people who want them to improve. (And, there needs to be chemistry in there...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I'm sorry. I am a bit confused. I was replying to your post about people leaving, and as they leave, they spout their dislike of D&D and praise other games. That's all true, but my point was the number is so small it means very little from a community and business perspective. I am aware of...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

How many really left 5e behind? 1%? 2%? Not enough to matter to the overall contingency. For example; "Oh, 1% left for Daggerheart! Oh no!" Until they come back. Then it is: "Oh not.02% left for Daggerheart!" Small numbers equals small consequences.

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

Really? I actually find that hard to believe. Probably more like, a few, very outspoken people, are mad at the OGL saga. I mean, I get it. It was a big deal. But there are few places on the internet more seeped in D&D than ENWorld. And I haven't seen one post about it in ages.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

I mean truthfully, there are so few bad players (especially when grouped with other good players) and so few DMs, that this is argument is running on hyperbole.
