I guess the Krull cyclops is a fantasy standard now?

I was going to look for some other material to compare, but Googling "cyclops in movies" gets around a 95% ratio of X-Men to anything else. There was that overseer guy in the Fallout series who is basically just a normal guy with an unusual eye placement, but somehow that feels more unnatural...

And you don't really get to Winter Soldier without going through First Avenger. So much of Winter Soldier is built upon that foundation.

Trailer Lanterns | Official Teaser | HBO Max

Captain America did a great job of making me care about that skinny little kid from Brooklyn who kept his values even after he 'grew up' and who missed his date by 70 years saving the world. Thor took the other route, finding his worth after his arrogance nearly cost him everything, but I cared...

Yeah, sorry, elaborating on those takes doesn't cool them down any.

I'm not sure there's a "these shows" equivalent to this one in the superhero genre. It looks to be skewing more adult than the typical WB Arrowverse type shows, something closer to Reacher or Justified. Definitely not the genre I'd expect to particularly concern itself with minding its language.

D&D General Magic guns against "realistic firearms".

The original 3.5e Eberron had the concept of "wandslingers", low-level magic adepts armed with mass-produced wands, serving the same purpose as riflemen in a real-world army. These days you could achieve much the same effect with a bunch of NPCs with the Magic Initiate feat.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series from 2011 was short-lived but I remember enjoying it at the time.

Yeah, hard to imagine a villain being countered using giant oven mitts in this one.

Yeah, where I'm at is that this looks like a potentially excellent gritty drama about small-town corruption and unconventional heroes, that would work much better without them being Green Lanterns.

D&D 5E (2024) How Many "Anti PC" Abilities are to Many?

One big thing that can make these effects less anti-PC is if they are also anti other creatures in the same environment. Have a chart of debilitating effects similar to those the PCs may be afflicted with, then have the monsters in an encounter be afflicted with, say, 1d4 of them chosen at...

D&D General Suggest to me a dangerous sea monster from any edition

If you want the players to recognise it as a threat beyond them, you pretty much have to go with either a familiar monster or something so huge that it gets the point across. The ancient dragon turtle from Fizban's does the latter very well.

D&D 5E (2024) Feedback wanted: Spend death save failures for additional hit dice

It just seems so very situational as-is. Spending more than one death save to gain hit points seems suicidal as it can readily result in a situation where the character will die before any intervention is possible if they go down, but on the other hand gaining a single hit die's healing while...

What videogames are you playing in 2026?

I've finished Ghost of Yotei. Good, but not as epic or as emotionally satisfying as Ghost of Tsushima. Some of the story beats felt very forced. Also, there's something about going from the adrenaline rush of the game's close combat straight into the enforced passivity of an extended cutscene...

D&D General Describe your eldritch blast to me

For my genie-patron air genasi warlock (backstory is he used to be human but after doing the Aladdin thing of freeing a genie with his last wish he's been cursed to replace him and is slowly transforming into a genie) all of his spells tend to be manifestations of violet smoke or light. His...
