D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental Real in Game Thoughts. S Tier? Review So ENworld can Tell Me I'm Wrong.

Ranger could be fine. HM is nice at low levels, but probably not ideal longer-term… the Fighter overall has better low-level abilities though, beyond just Weapon Mastery, I find. Fighting Style, Second Wind, Action Surge are all useful… Also, why wait until CME comes online, would you not...

D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental Real in Game Thoughts. S Tier? Review So ENworld can Tell Me I'm Wrong.

For sure. War Caster is the special sauce we want on every recipe 🤝 That feels like moving the goalposts, but perhaps in a way that doesn’t really matter all that much 🤔 … The Bonus Action muddies the water… yes, the Bard could use it and attain the same number of attacks as the Fighter with...

D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental Real in Game Thoughts. S Tier? Review So ENworld can Tell Me I'm Wrong.

I hear you… but not sure if the concern is overblown… If you care for numbers of attacks in early levels (which is totally fine if you do, why not!) then you could consider that a single level of fighter grants you Nick, effectively giving you two attacks per Attack Action from level 1. Why...

D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental Real in Game Thoughts. S Tier? Review So ENworld can Tell Me I'm Wrong.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Sounds reasonable overall, but I wanted to dig deeper into this part: (Emphasis mine) You don’t actually need Eberron’s Mark of Storm and PDM feat pair to pull this off… you could simply multi-class. Is there any reason for a gish (BS, VB, etc) to not take at...

    D&D 5E (2024) How I Would Do 5.75

Not exactly… the thread title is: How I Would Do 5.75 Not how I would change it. Change is obviously implied, but if most things HAD to be changed, then it would probably be a 6.0 thread. Being a 5.x thread, rather than a 6.0 thread, it is implied that some things are changed and some are...

D&D General What is your experience with party size in Waterdeep Dungeon of the Mad Mage?

Hi, I’m planning to start a DotMM campaign soon. I’ve only read a couple of levels yet and it looks pretty brutal, but still I wonder if a smaller than recommended party could pull it off. Let’s assume the players have fairly good work ethic and will clean up each level as best they can. If...

D&D 5E (2024) Indirectly Buffing Rogues, Rangers, Monks Via Magic Items?

Another aspect to consider is creating scenarios where items are completely or partially unavailable. Some examples: Ambush at night during a long rest. The party member who is on guard duty is fully equipped, but everyone else is unarmored. Players can pick up their weapons and can have some...

D&D General Limits of the RAW: Economics of Outsourcing Actions, Concentration & Attunement

Wow, cool. I didn’t know about this. I lent my 2014 DMG a while back so can’t check, but good to know! EDIT: BTW, since this 2014 boon has not been rewritten for 2024, then by the RAW it should be allowed to take it as is in a 2024 game, right? I edited the OP to mention this. Thanks again!

D&D General Limits of the RAW: Economics of Outsourcing Actions, Concentration & Attunement

I’ll kick things off by answering the last question… At my table, if I were DM and a player brought this up, I think I would allow familiars to attune to magic items, which is already quite strong, IMHO, but probably not game-breaking. As for tiny servants, I would probably house-rule that...

D&D General Limits of the RAW: Economics of Outsourcing Actions, Concentration & Attunement

I was thinking about how to optimize the action economy of a Wizard and how to, in particular, not let the Bonus Action go to waste. I came to realize the same thing many others concluded before, which is that 5e Wizards have a dearth of options for using their Bonus Action without also giving...

D&D General The 10th level 2024 Monk can do 3 attacks with a BA, but only 2 with an AA

Yeah, it's true that there could be awkward levels before this build comes into its own. One way to view it is that you are a support player, focusing on healing for a while. How it goes could also depend a lot on the sequencing... if you multi-class late, then you're essentially a pure class...

D&D General The 10th level 2024 Monk can do 3 attacks with a BA, but only 2 with an AA

Yep, and with Warrior of the Mystic Arts, you can add 4 spellcaster levels, getting you a 6th level slot, so that can be 4d8. Plus one of your attacks can be a cantrip, so another 3d6 once per round via True Strike. It adds up.

D&D General The 10th level 2024 Monk can do 3 attacks with a BA, but only 2 with an AA

Yep. Monk is one of the few where the 20th level class feature is actually attractive, making dips harder to justify... so while I think most gishes would for sure benefit, say, from taking a Fighter 2 dip for Action Surge and the other things, I find it a harder pill to swallow if comparing...

D&D General The 10th level 2024 Monk can do 3 attacks with a BA, but only 2 with an AA

Actually, this has been brewing in my mind due to your Stormy EK build 😄 A pure Monk with Potent Mark of Storm could be pretty nice. On 1st round, cast CME and attack thrice, then on subsequent rounds, attack 5 times. Pretty simple, but should be fun.

D&D General The 10th level 2024 Monk can do 3 attacks with a BA, but only 2 with an AA

Importantly, there is a change between 2014 and 2024. In 2014: In 2024: So the 2024 rules are simplified, but also more flexible. An Attack Action is no longer required (as it would be in TWF, for example). This opens up interesting combos, such as for an unarmed gish. Use an Action to...

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

This was an amazing book, and really suffused 3.5e with a new life. It was basically 3.75e, along with Complete Scoundrel (which gave us skill tricks) and Complete Arcane (which, IIRC, gave us reserve spells, an early version of at will cantrips, but with cooler mechanics IMHO). Too bad they...
