Yet another "How old are you?" thread

We got it later, in mid 90s. In my grandparents building, they had one antenna on the roof of the building and then signal from that one was routed trough regular tv cables in the building. Call it "building wide cable tv", just free. Before that, people had big fishbone antennas, and depending...

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

What people? I'm talking about international casual fans and casual fans in general. Regular people, mostly older now, for whom HP is just part of childhood nostalgia. They have bigger things to care than what some author of kids books said on social media. Things like rising prices of...

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

You would be surprised. Franchise ended, people grew up, had new interests and didn't follow author on social media. Specially outside of USA. Controversies are mostly on english speaking side of social media, and mostly twitter/x or reddit or specialized forums, it didn't really bleed in on...

That would be 83, right? Funny thing is, half my friends are born in 77-81, half are 86-89. But, we all had pretty similar childhood and grew up in similar way. Latchkey kids, riding bikes or on local school playground playing football till street lights came on, playing pirated games on...

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

It has solid potential to be big hit. It hit's on nostalgia factor. Generation that grew up with HP books and original movies is generation that now has kids that are in that age bracket first 2-3 books are aimed to. For them, new HP is perfect way to introduce their kids to bellowed franchise...

Thank you for answering. I figured you probably read it as an adult, just didn't want to presume it. I was 10-11 when first book came out and about 19-20 when last one came out, so i read it "in real time", being close to age of Harry. Lot of what you wrote about in your previous post, you don't...

@Swanosaurus Out of curiosity, how old were you when you first read books?

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

Pretty much this. First 3 books are essentially books for kids aged 8-12 with heavy focus on school life. World building is in service of the plot. "It's not that deep bro" perfectly describes level of world building. And in books 4-7, it doesn't get any better, although it switches to more...

They also view muggle tech as crude, primitive and beneath them. But main thing is, HP is kids/young adult book series. Factor in that guns are that big culturaly in uk or europe in general, and it's easy reason why no one uses them. You also don't see anyone using cell phones ( Nokia 5510 was...

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

I'm following thread about this same topic on another forum (general one). In 60-ish post so far, 0 mentions of Rawling, her politics or politics in general, just pure HP based discussion and occasional shitting on studios for milking bellowed franchise. Here, on forum with geeks and fantasy/sf...

It can be done. So far, The Pitt has managed to do seasson a year. 8 episodes per season isn't that much, so it's realistic to keep it on yearly release schedule. Child actors grow up fast, specially in that preteen to teen years.

She's worth somewhere between 1.5-2 billion dollars. Someone would assume that's enough money to last you a few life times. I know, it's idealistic view. As for her view, i'm not touching that with 11 foot pole. I'm just sad that magical world created by her is "tainted".

    Buffy Reboot Cancelled

Can they leave beloved franchises alone? While i was always more fan of Angel than Buffy, it was still one of the shows i grew up and loved. I'm glad they cancelled it. We don't need He Man Revelations with titular character being barley present on screen. Full blown reboot with complete new...

Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

Not super interested in watching it. HP was big part of my childhood, both books and movies and 15 years is too soon for new version, specially since movies are still pretty popular. For me and much of my generation, original cast will always be faces of those characters. I really hope they...

Dune: Part Three | Official Teaser Trailer

Hit and miss. Personally, to horror of Dune and Herbert purists, i liked prequel Houses trilogy much better than Herbert's books 4-5-6. Maybe it's just that i don't care about philosophy mixed with acid trip so much, but i do love good sf political ploys and story. Butlerian Jihad trilogy is...

D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

Subsciption tab is great for watching stuff from channels you already like, but not so great for discovery of new channels. Unfortunately, algo is one that pushes or ignores videos, which is one of the main ways of discovering new channels and content. Not so small number of people watch Yt on...

Is "finding the right players" a solvable problem, or just luck?

Friend of mine has company that does that. They are mostly focused on nordic larp type of games, started out as larp games creators/organizers, then about 10 years ago, they realized potential in using larp as team building method. Most of their revenue comes from precisely that, team building...

Is "finding the right players" a solvable problem, or just luck?

I think distinction is that in one case, you were lucky enough to get into a good group, other is, you got lucky to even find and get into a group in the first place and then decided it's good enough. Personally, i don't think session 0 is right time to see how people who never met interact...

D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

To be fair, i mostly stopped watching d&d related content on purpose, i'll watch if something pops up on recommended and it seems interesting (anything related to 5.5 is not in that category). I'll get ocasional ragebait/clickbait video on recommended feed and 9/10 times, not watch it (idgaf...
