The satanic panic was when a bunch of child care facilities were accused of satanic ritual abuse and people lost their livelihoods and businesses and even went to jail over completely made up nonsense. I remember the "D&D satanic panic" growing up and it... wasn't. It was just bible belters...

Off topic: the only fad book series I read that actually seemed to hold up to scrutiny was The Hunger Games. Solid storytelling and prose, even if the premise was nonsense.

I discovered them after I had discovered D&D, and after I had already read a bunch of adult fantasy. But 12 year old me loved DL and I still find myself stealing ideas from it to this day (especially the returning gods bit).

That makes sense, although it is definitely more granular than I would bother going with. The thing about analogies is that they don't usually benefit from overthinking (because all analogies break down). You end up talking yourself out of the analogy, which seems counterproductive.

I am honestly not especially interested in defending the basis of the analogy with you. If you don't like it, that's fine.

Play to find out is interesting in the context of the food analogy. Korean barbeque maybe? Something where folks do a lot of their own flavoring and dressing and that often convinces other folks to riff on whatever thing you just did.

Holden is Lawful Good, for sure, but I I'm not sure there is anything else about him that his "paladin like." His loyalty is not to an oath or an organization, but his found family and (often infuriatingly) his own moral code.
