How Much Does Attending GenCon Cost?

yeah, it all depends on how much money you have and how high a priority your hobbies are. For me next year is likely out of the question. Over the course of the next year I will be getting married (very soon), buying a house, and possible starting a family. I just don't think I'm going to...

What Makes a Convention Game Great?

Most of the Con games I have played in had fully adult player parties. Now, many of them were young adults 17-21 but still adults. Don't be put off by kids playing to much, some kids are really great RPers. :)

Most gamer friendly hotel in Indy during Gen Con?

I stayed @ the Hilton, and I had no problems, in fact the room was clean and the bed were comfy. I didn't see the gaming tables, those guys should really advertise that. :]

What Makes a Convention Game Great?

I ran a game @ Gencon this year and it was the first ever con game I ran (for people i didn't know). The bad part was that only two players showed up. :( I decided to run it anyway because it was a company sanctioned event and the two players that showed wanted to game anyway. Anyone had...

    Gen Con Reports?

yeah, we had a bit of confusion there with our names. :o My real life name is Mike Crow so that is where the Mcrow comes from. I wish I would have had more time to meet up with the other ENworld folks. I will make sure I do it next year. :)

    Gen Con Reports?

This was my first Gencon and it was from a working point of view. I was working for Hinterwelt Enterprises the whole con, but had plenty of time to go out an wander the dealer hall. Tuesday: Bill, Theo (Bills 2 year old son), and I load up the van and leave for Chicago(burbs). Surprisingly...

    Eric Noah's Info

Thanks, you explained my point better than I knew how. :) Now as far as AoO: It ties into what JustaPlayer is talking about. As soon as combat starts players come out of character and start playing a strategy game. Which is fine if they have fun with it, I don't care. AoO just adds to it...

    Eric Noah's Info

See, I think you are looking @ it differently than I am. You can role-play anything you want, if you try hard enough. You could Role-play Decent if you wanted to. What I'm saying is some games and their rules hinder role-playing. That's why I don't use minis with D&D and it works OK. If they...

    Eric Noah's Info

Then you could get the same experience out of playing Decent. I just think that the minis tend to place a lot of emphasis on how you move your minis. It also seems to encourage playing outside of character knowledge. All that fiddling with mini and such just seems to take away from RPing IME. :\

    Eric Noah's Info

I'm just curious how much more "mini centric" D&D can be. As it sits now 3.5 is close enough to a boardgame for me. Where is the line where a game is no longer and RPG, but a minis or boardgame?

Why DO Other Games Sell Less?

Well, it's pretty simple IMO D&D: Was the first Has the most money to spend marketing, writting, editing, graphic design and such Brand Name, it's like the the Nike of RPGs. Others may make game that are jsut as good but everyone knows D&D.

    The Kyngdoms

I almost picked this up a few weeks back, but ended up passing on it. It looked interesting enough. The one problem I had with it is that the only thing different from any other fantasy setting was switching around the environments that the traditional fantasy races lived in. So in the ended up...

    Guardians of Order's death-a confirmation

These are all great prouducts and I own all of them (minus BESM). Really, GOO had some of the best writing, layout, and Art in their books of any small publisher. It's a real shame that the company tanked. All of the above games I would play any given time. Tri-stat is great system to.

    Mongoose & Runequest

I remember seeing a thread someplace wher Matt said that Mongoose would be putting out a lot stuff for Conan with the RQ rules. I could have been dilusional @ the time, but I don't think so. My only problem @ this point with the new RQ is that to get the core rules + Glorantha its going to cost...
