D&D General What's your Campaign Success Rate?

50% for long-form campaigns - I'm not counting the ton of 1-4 session short games I've run. I ran a campaign back in college and one in grad school that didn't finish. My more recent two campaigns - a 5e levels 3-20 game that went for 3.5 years, and a 13th Age levels 1-9 game that went for a...

D&D 5E Which Virtual Table Top are you using right now and what do you like best about it?

I used MapTool for a game I ran almost 15 years ago... Does it still have its own custom scripting language? I've found Foundry easier to add macros / modules to than I remember MapTool being since Foundry is just regular JS, but that was quite a while back in software time, so I don't know...

No personal experience with it besides knowing it exists, but are you thinking of Game Master Engine?

D&D 5E Which Virtual Table Top are you using right now and what do you like best about it?

Not sure what you mean by $10 full learning curve, sorry, but I found Foundry to be very intuitive overall - more so than Roll20. It generally has good UX choices. I introduced some friends to Foundry as well, and I think they had the same feeling about it. Happy to comment on specific aspects...

D&D 5E Which Virtual Table Top are you using right now and what do you like best about it?

I switched from Roll20 to Foundry a while back for my 13th Age game, and it's been great. The overall interface is set up much better, a lot of the tools seem to work better, the macro scripting is way more robust, tons of modules you can use to customize your game... Just overall a much...

D&D 5E Magic items in D&D Next: Remove them as PC dependant?

Seems like, if they keep something like CR/EL, and they keep something like item levels/costs/whatever, then it would be, well... not straightforward, but doable to present a default low-magic version, and then magic-item-quantity templates that layer on top of that and affect the effective...

Fighters vs mages at high level.

Hmm... Take the Mage Slayer feat chain (from Complete Arcane), Combat Reflexes, and fight with a spiked chain. Bump your initiative up as high as possible, since you need to get within reach of the mage before he can cast anything. Get an item of Giant Size (from Complete Arcane) with a 17+...
