Halflings -- what version (if any)?

Exterminate them Basic edition - OK 1st edition - drifting 2nd edition - weaker Kender - the worst of the lot Athas - weird; not worth the bother 3.x - better than kender by (10^-7)%

How do you feel about 3e's art style?

This seems to be the most common opinion expressed, and one I agree with. Dungeonpunk is a good descriptor. In general, the art is excellent, whether from a technique standpoint or "production values" as someone put it earlier in the thread. However, I voted "generally good", mostly because...

    Campaign Settings III

First of all, I don't think any setting deserves anything. People buy what they want, and leave the rest on the shelf, as it were (even Amazon has shelves, you just don't see 'em). As for my particular preference, I'm one of those long time players that left late in 2E, came back for 3E, and...

Which 3.5 class do you think is the weakest?

I'll chime in with my cent and a half. Clerics are the most powerful, not the least because of their versatility, spellcasting in armor and domain powers. The decent combat ability and undead turning are just gravy. I chose the druid as the weakest. I do have experience with powerful...

D&D with no Healing Magic! Would it work?

The one option is a vitality/wound point system like in Star Wars d20, or in Unearthed Arcana. The only issue there, though, is the uber damage of most arcane battle spells, sneak attack, etc. We're grappling with that for our next campaign - it's fun, but a lot of work. -Fletch!

Do you prefer Monster statistics in an adventure's text or at the end

I'm all with that. I tend to use a lot of sources at once - DMG, PHB, 2-4 monster books for embellishments, a misc source like CW. With all of those open at once, I don't have the luxury of constantly flipping. Now, if there was some way to get the stats electronically, so I could print them...

Hit points: High side, average, straight roll, what?

We roll, and the DM rolls secretly. If you are not happy with your roll, you can take the DM's, though it could be the same or worse. Think of it as a blind "Luck domain" kind of thing. -Fletch!

Level Adjustment for Divine Rank 0?

We are playing a relatively high-powered, breaking into epic game, and are using a +4. Most of the abilities are not too powerful (i.e. DR of x/+4 in a high-level 3.0 game is irrelevant). Obviously, the lower the level the more impact it will have. I think +8 would be a tad harsh, but it...

Real difference between hit-points and vitality-points

Disappointed with UA VP/WP I was really looking forward to UA for the specific topic of VP/WP systems. And I was not impressed. There are so many issues with converting a D&D-like magic system to use a gritty wound system, and I looked for some sort of solution. I'm currently working on my...

    Ability Score Generation

Other - Modified Point Buy We typically used a point buy system, from 28 to 32 points. This let people make the characters they wanted. In a new campaign that I'm designing, we are taking a slightly different approach. To reintroduce some randomness, we roll (d100) on a table to determine...

Everyone, Tell us about your games, please!

Kind of tough to answer. Actually playing in two groups right now. I'll answer for each based on when we play. 1. Seven in the Sunday group, though one is sort of fading out right now. On Saturdays, we have five, though one is only there about 40% of the time. We may be adding two more to...

    The DM's Percentage

A big part of the picture is tying together all of the little bits and pieves you scrounge elsewhere. It's a lot of work, so I'd put the DM's percentage at 60 or 70%. -Fletch!

    The Gaming Ideal

FWIW, here are my answers. 1. The best number of players at the table, including a single DM, is six. More than one DM and more than 5 players is too complex. The logistics of the session take a major dip after the 5th player, no matter how well the group hones their time and rolling and...

Figured I'd toss in my latest character for a shot. Thanks to Kai Lord for the opportunity, and best of luck to all. -------------------------------------------------------------- Veqh is new to the Forgotten Realms, and an alien land it is. Created by Silpion, a Solar in the service of...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Disruption still worth +2

Re: Re: [3.5] Disruption still worth +2 How many other "save or die" effects are basically written "if your opponent rolls a '1' on its save, it is destroyed"? None. This effect is based on Heal, a real undead killer. With this cheesy effect, it should be based on disrupt undead. Look, by...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Disruption still worth +2

In 3.0, the save against a disruption weapon's special effect on undead was a DC 14 Fort save. Being as an undead creature has no Con, and Will was their good save, an undead typically had a low Fort bonus. Disruption was worth a +2, and maybe a little on the strong side at that. In 3.5, the...

    Spellstitched?

It may be a 'fun' template, but it is either way underpowered for the cost, or way overcosted for the power. I can;t imagine any player spending that amount of XP and gold to make something a low level character could take out, let alone a peer of the necessary caster. -Fletch!

[DM] - To Sunder, or not to Sunder? (Break, Destroy, Steal the PC's gear?)

I've noticed as a DM of many years that players tend to think that treasure their characters get becomes their personal property as a player - I'm talking out of character. There is not respect for 'what DM gives DM can take away - assuming it moves the story'. This is a core 'player flaw' I'm...

    Article on _genuine_ mature themes

My wife is a public school teacher in a rural community, and it really doesn't get a whole lot more depressing than that. She and the other women gamers in our group want the escapism, and want to bash orcs more than the guys. THat said, they are also the ones that get bored first when things...
