D&D 4E 4e Prediction - Devils and Yuggoloths get axed

I can imagine we won't see yugoloths in the 4e Monster Manual, but only because of a limited page count. The issues mentioned here are just no reason for me why devils and yugoloths should be banished from 4e or merged with the daemons. The blood war is just too good and interesting to not have it.

D&D 4E 4E tidbits from WotC blogs (Updated:David Noonan on Social Interactions)

Well, but then it's also not a huge deal to make their system cross-platform right from the start. You don't use DirectX if you plan to eventually support other platforms anyway. I highly doubt that they have any plans right now to eventually support other platforms (Oh, and I don't count...

    D&D 4E Race Matters more in 4e?

There exist different ways to handle this. Like to not make "be really powerful with weapon X" a racial feat or giving the elf other goodies to make up for it. We have to wait for some previews to see how 4e will actual handle these things.

    D&D 4E Race Matters more in 4e?

Racial feats may enable different elves to develop different racial abilities. They should not penalize but enable more racial variance.

D&D 4E 4E tidbits from WotC blogs (Updated:David Noonan on Social Interactions)

I think exactly that. They didn't pay for such an analysis and just hired some Windows shop without experience in cross platform development. The money such an analysis would cost would be better spent on a search function for their forums anyway - they are useless for me as a knowledge base...

D&D 4E 4E tidbits from WotC blogs (Updated:David Noonan on Social Interactions)

We have no exact numbers, especially with free things like Linux and because not every PC with a pre-installed Windows will actually run Windows. But if you look at the absolute numbers, even a mere 2% market share *means millions of people. That are a lot of people to exclude from D&D's...

D&D 4E 4E tidbits from WotC blogs (Updated:David Noonan on Social Interactions)

"Oh, the poor rogue's useless against all these plants and elementals." does not necessarily means that sneak attacks work against everything. We don't even know if sneak attacks (or creature types for that matter) as we know them are in 4e at all. It could well be that the whole mechanic was...

    Subscribing to D&D Insider

I am not interested in their electronic gaming table (which won't run on my non Windows computers anyway), so it depends mostly on the Dungeon and Dragon magazines content and the Forgotten Realms fluff I will find there. If I like what I find there I will subscribe.

Are you worried about character conversion from 3.E-4.E?

What I read so far I like very much (rules, not the digital stuff). So I guess we will switch ASAP to the new rules and convert our characters and I am absolutely not worried about it. The most important things are the background, the story, the accomplishments, the adventurers, the environment...

D&D 4E 4E tidbits from WotC blogs (Updated:David Noonan on Social Interactions)

Absolutely. But IMO this has nothing to do with rules at all. Smart play is always an option (and more fun), no matter what edition you play. I doubt 4e will take away the option for characters beeing smart or to find new creative ways to solve problems. No doubt, in 4e there won't be any...

    Generation: rolling vs. point buy

We use point-buy because it's very fair as everyone starts out with the same "value" of attributes, and his highly customizable to ensure you can play the character you want (sans the "everywhere 18s überchar"). Sébastien Loise from the math department of Mc Gill, CA once did a mathematical...

What is wrong with race class limits?

But this should always happen because the concept was bad (or didn't fit), not because the character is impossible.

What is wrong with race class limits?

For me they are bad because they can prevent players from playing the characters they want (or the DM to make the NPC he wants). No explanation would change that, so no, no kind of explanation for race class limits in the game and setting would not make those restrictions okay. They are...

    Spells/encounter vs.spells/day info?

Very intesting. Having a mechanic to 'fix' spells which get unbalancing if they can be cast all day long is dearly needed - in this case it's the 'recharge time'. That variant looks good. Has anyone used recharge magic? I would love to hear about in-game experiences.

Dragon Magazine: Monster Ecologies to be released!

Yes, I would have prefered an indexed ebook with all existing ecology articles.

    Options for arcane healing spells?

Actually, wizards can already do that. They can plane shift into the positive energy plane (assuming the default cosmology with the energy planes), wait until they are healed (and some more for extra hit points), and plane shift back. But why the requirement for a healing attuned plane at all...

Dragon Magazine: Monster Ecologies to be released!

Very cool! I always had the opinion that this information should belong into the monster manuals. The ecology and fluff is much more interesting and inspireing then tons of boring (and too often very similar) stat blocks, especially for intelligent monsters.

    Options for arcane healing spells?

I am not sure I agree with this argument. It seems to be in the same league as "a cleric in the party makes the fighters tougher" (because the cleric can heal and buff the fighters) or "a battle control mage makes the melee characters more efficient", etc.

Where is Ed's Castlemourn campaign book?

I like it. I remember that when Tolkien's Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings encountered elves the very first time at night in the forest, the elves are described as if they shine of their own light. When I read the elves entry in Castlemourn's players guide I was instantly reminded of that...
