D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

That depends on how many short rests the fighter takes and requires not using those spell slots for anything other than healing. You're paladin model took 16 CON and 16 CHA at the expense of STR (or DEX)? 2 short rests is 3 uses of Second Wind. 3 short rests is 4 uses of Second Wind. 1 short...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

50/50 was with just a +2 bonus to the save. Approximately 1 out of 3 was without a bonus. At that level it's often no bonus or sometimes it's the +2 bonus. EDIT: shaking sleeping allies awake is also action denial

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Check your list again. I definitely see Entangle on the ranger spell list in my 2024 PHB. The difficult terrain we get from Entangle regardless of a save is what makes it useful, but the conditions from a failed save from Sleep are better than the conditions from a failed save with Entangle...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

No arguments here. Lessons of the First Ones allows for a lot of leeway which gets back to my point that gaining 2 invocations at 2nd level is a solid boost. The default spell list is at those levels is kind of mid.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Can't upcast yet at 2nd level so they're still relatively low DC single target spells. Fiendish Vigor is a fantastic source of thp at that level, though. ;-)

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

If we accept the premise that Entangle, Goodberry, medium armor, and shields makes a caster on par with the best level 2 martials wouldn't that lead us to rangers being the best of the best at those levels because they have that too and more? Bards, sorcerers, and wizards have Sleep for a good...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

The OP made a claim about spell casters and then based it on an incomplete reference to what wizards gain at 2nd level. Bards gain Expertise, Jack of all Trades, an extra spell prepared, and an extra spell slot. That doesn't seem like much but it is a bonus to many skill checks and 3 1st-level...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Let them try. What's going to happens is they'll burn through those slots even faster and the martial classes will still be able to take many short rests while the casters are waiting out their long rest. You didn't explain how those few spell slots outlasted the hit dice, however. ;-)

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Those are a long rest resource. That helps but doesn't work with an argument for short rest recovery options. ;-)

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Why would it be the "end of the day" if the casters still have spell slots and the martials can take a short rest to recover resources? Why did they run out of hit dice so fast (the party has way more hit dice than the casters have spell slots dedicated to healing)?

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

That assumption is there because we're comparing spell slots that require a long rest to recover to martial abilities that require a short rest to recover. The martials are actually resting more often but the rest can be done many times while the casters are still taking that one rest. I like...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

I was confused because a 5th level cleric has 9 spell slots that aren't all dedicated to healing. A party of five has 25 hit dice available for healing plus potions plus whatnot. IME the spells are the smaller part of the healing. I find 7-8 healing potions each to be a high number but...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

I separated this because I have to question why you think we would need 100 potions at 5th level.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

If you play with Bastion rules each PC can have a herb garden in it that produces either one free healing potion or ten healer kits. A greenhouse as a 9th level bastion facility grants a greater healing potion per week. Even if you don't hand out much money there are still other ways to add...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

A cleric's few spell slots at low levels don't go far either. That's why I bring up crafting. Twice as many potions for the same money time permitting. It's also why I bring up other sources of healing. The healer feat is still good regardess of the changes.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Sure, manipulation of dice and initiative is good. My disagreement is that martials need to follow the caster time table based on spell, that the reason for this is because the martials need the casters for healing or they can't continue, or that this causes martials to not be able to continue...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Maybe, but what you use and what the rules use are different. Anyone can administer a healing potion with a bonus action, and anyone can learn to brew healing potions. They take all of a day to craft so they can be stockpiled during downtime. My current rogue (thief) is a wannabe bard who has...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

It's not just hit dice and healing potions. It's also class abilities, subclass abilities, and feats. We can't ignore those because there's a lot of options in there. There's a load of healing outside of spells. That's why casters are using their spell slots on DoT's or status effects or...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

We don't need casters to heal. Healing is still something we do when things go wrong, but we have hit die healing, potions as basic equipment, various class abilities, and various sources of temporary hit points. These things generally provide more hit points than a few spells. That's only...

D&D 5E (2024) Elemental Adept is a Bad Feat. Elemental Damage Vs Radiance Etc

Elemental Adept still gives that bonus to a spell casting stat and slight bonus to damage when 1's count as 2's. I would take it on a themed build that focuses on an element. A lot of monsters are resistant to cold (64 in the MM if I count correctly), for example, so if I want to make a...
