Yeah there are quite a few systems where combat is a long and drawn out process and D&D is quite bad for it. I might take a look at Apocalypse world and see how it compares :)

I tend to do a bit of both, it really depends on the situation. Sometimes it is good to do it at the table to keep things going, but other times I like to take a player to the side quickly especially if it is something personal that is happening with their character. The party I am reffing at...
