    D&D 5E What Alignment Am I?

Very much agree.. the alignment system is too shallow to allow for nuance. Am I lawful for following a strict personal code, or chaotic for not caring about the prevailing external laws? Good for wanting to protect the innocent, or evil/neutral for ruthlessly punishing "wrongdoers"...

    D&D 5E Blade Ward cantrip

In my game, changed Blade Ward to: Bonus action, gain resistance to the first instance of non magical B/P/S damage. 5th seems kinda lacking in bonus actions/reactions, IMO... this type of change seemed like a good fit.

    D&D 5E Experience with a bladesinger?

That seems to be what each is best suited for, IMO.

    D&D 5E Experience with a bladesinger?

My thoughts so far: -"Melee" cantrips are a total Nonbo with bladesinger's extra attack feature, since you can only cantrip attack *or* attack twice. Extra attack is usually a wasted class feature. -Low damage scaling- bladesinger gets defensive buff after defensive buff, but little in the way...

I thought this thread was about Summoning, not Necromancy? :heh:

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

Medieval armour was not designed to protect against modern firearms-it was designed to protect against swords, axes, arrows, etc.. that comparison is inappropriate. I think you are misinterpreting what "glance" means: "to hit something at an angle and bounce off obliquely." -the energy is not...

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

That is your assessment and opinion, and I just don't agree with it ^_^ The nice thing about house rules.

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

AC might claim to include the damage reduction capabilities/mitigation, but I feel it does a poor job of it. It is, IMO, an oversimplified system that fails to capture the actual worth of armour. Would a few points of extra DR skew things towards heavy armour in certain situations? Well... yes...

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

I understand what you are saying, however armour is not as encumbering/mobility limiting as you think it is. The reduced mobility from heavier armours is already represented in the system by limiting the AC you can gain from dexterity. It is FAR harder to hit someone to *any* effect in full...

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

I don't think you are so much punishing those who can't/won't wear armour(any) as you are providing a concrete reason for those who can to do so. Yes, the monk would have a harder time hitting a person in plate armour to any effect- glancing blows, etc(AC).. and when they did hit, some (or all)...

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

RE: Barbarian - My group doesn't roll for HP. In fact, I felt that the "average" roll per die type disproportionately punished the classes with higher dice types. I raised HP/level to Max die roll minus two, plus con mod. (1d6 =4, 1d8=6, 1d10=8, 1d12=10) Perhaps consider a flat +1-2 hp/level to...

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

It's a simple addition to correct a (perceived) imbalance in the base game design, rather than a full on rewrite. Kinda the nice thing with PnP, being able to correct game balance/inconsistencies so easily.

    D&D 5E Armor: damage reduction

Planning on something similar- DR= 1/2 armour value vs pierce/slash/bludgeon. (I would include natural armour, monk WIS bonus to AC, and barbarian CON bonus to AC in this as well.) Should help bring STR more in line with DEX.

D&D 5E Favorite method of generating ability scores

I understand what you are getting at. Bob and Jack are still unique individuals though, in spite of starting with a standard array. Stats alone do not a "character" make- they do, however, put them on an even playing field from the outset. You could end up with identically flavoured...

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

100 times this. I have found that many concentration spells simply aren't worth using if you can only concentrate on a single spell.

D&D 5E Empowered Evocation plus Magic Missile?

Once per missile in my game, for sure- Magic missile *should* be better than a cantrip. At level 10, without empowered Evocation, or with a single +int modifier for the whole spell, magic missile has a worse damage range than firebolt- and it only gets worse as cantrips scale twice more. (Even...

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

My group has been experimenting with a couple different methods of concentration- Unlimited concentration slots, with increasing DC to maintain concentration- if you fail, you lose them all. This one is strong, but very risk/reward based. Additional caveat of no invisibility+fly. 1+1 Casters...

D&D 5E Favorite method of generating ability scores

A group of point buy/standard array would be a group of peers- adventurers of similar ability.. everyone can contribute meaningfully. The only "samish" thing is power level.. you can of course control this campaign to campaign- average one time, superheroes the next, loveable screw ups another...

D&D 5E How would you make a Jedi in 5e?

Fighter-Battlemaster 15/Immortal Psionic 5, with the rules we currently have would make for a reasonable approximation of a jedi guardian.
