D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I completed my first playthrough as an Oath of Vengeance Paladin and never once had an issue with my oath. I thought maybe that would trigger it. But nope, greater good I guess. Also it's really f*cking fun to smite things. The game has been a real treat for a forever DM.

I could maybe justify that approach. Maybe. I'll blame Astarion. "Oh No! Astarion. Why? How could you?" ;)

I really want to do a run with Minthara as a party member but I can't bring myself to fulfill the requirements. Paladins have such strong Main Character Energy I love it.

D&D General What do you NOT want systems for?

What, you don't also ask your players to perform a long jump in person every time their character jumps a ravine? Or take a trip to your local climbing gym when they attempt to traverse a cliff?

D&D General What do you NOT want systems for?

I hate hate hate inventory systems that primarily use weights. Give me slots or something similar. It's fine in a video game where the game can do the math quickly and easily, but on paper it feels like tedious bookkeeping.

A lot of them are really easy to miss. Like

D&D General why are dwarves harder to think of varients for?

That idea reminds me of the Mostali from Runequest. I took a similar approach when brainstorming my now dormant homebrew setting. For mainline dwarves, the whole concept of family is basically subsumed into professional guilds, with only juvenile dwarves being guidless. They were also...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

It's a testament to the writing that one of my biggest gripes with the game is that I can't have every companion in my party at the same time. Poor Halsin having to compete with Jaheira. Then again, fights at levels 10-12 already get ridiculous enough with 4 party members. Six would be insane.

Lae'zel's companion quest is really good. Completely changed my initial impression of her. That's basically my party, with Karlach and Astarion getting about equal time depending on my needs. I don't really care for Wyll. I don't dislike him, I just like the other companions so much more.

D&D General Fantasy Spain - what would it have?

Lotta casual wine drinking. More games need casual wine drinking.

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

If Pokemon is any indication, you can pump out a clearly inferior product and still rake in millions! Brand loyalty is one helluva drug.

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

In terms of hypothetical 3P usage of the 3DVTT, I think Skyrim modding scene might be an optimistic parallel. Bethesda allows mods through the Creation Kit, but for the most part takes a mosly positive stance on mods, when they're not occasionally screwing with the modding community. Anyway, I...

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

In the list of things definitely not ever happening, this is one of them. Which publisher? DC or Marvel? Already locked up tight. Image? Is Saga x D&D the next big crossover?

D&D General Do you want a 3D vtt?

For me it was bringing chips and pizza to each session. Gotta grease up those dice.

    D&D General The DM Shortage

Honestly, the fact that a discussion on a possible DM shortage is bringing up AI DMs feels really icky to me. Isn't this supposed to be social game?

D&D General Do you want a 3D vtt?

I said "Maybe", but I lean heavily towards "No". I don't like the idea of a 3D VTT primarily because I believe it will create a closed ecosystem that won't be friendly to third party products of any kind. Also the potential for microtransactions, which I really don't want to see in a ttrpg, is...

    D&D General The DM Shortage

I was struck by a bad case of DM burnout earlier this year, so much so that I'm really soured on the idea of ever running D&D again. For me the issues were: Prepping and running a campaign felt time consuming. The investment in the game felt one-sided. Besides me, only one other player had...

D&D (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

For me, Ancestry edges out Species because it has a good adjective form with Ancestral. And because it sounds a bit more fantastic. Then again I never really had problems with Race, but I'm not going to mourn it's removal.

D&D General How Weird Do You Like Your D&D

Fairly grounded with strong moments of weirdness. Although what is an isn't weird can be a matter of perspective. I have been tempted to go full weird fantasy at times, with a setting/campaign mashing up Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Ultraviolet Grasslands, and the Graham and Roy run of...

D&D General Do you like LOTS of races/ancestries/whatever? If so, why?

I prefer running a game with only a few playable races, as most of my favorite works of fantasy (and sources of inspiration) are typically human-centric. My personal homebrew setting only has four, for example. I wouldn't have much issue playing in a game with a lot. But it's definitely not my...
