D&D 5E Have you seen "Squished Leveling" in DND?

They even used the word squish. Not sure how I missed it. Thanks for finding this.

D&D 5E Have you seen "Squished Leveling" in DND?

I think @Horwath said it pretty well. There are cool features that never really see the light of day in my games. By having them show up earlier I get to see them and have a chance to use them before the campaign ends. That was the main issue that other variants I found didn't address well. Less...

D&D 5E Have you seen "Squished Leveling" in DND?

Subclass features come online at different levels across classes and their power/purpose isn't consistent. For the original three Paladin subclasses their level 15 subclass features are a fairly simple reactive and/or passive benefit. Combining that with offensively minded Improved Divine Smite...

D&D 5E Have you seen "Squished Leveling" in DND?

Before I start, I found my "squished leveling" variant in an old notebook of mine recently. I wasn't able to find a similar "squished leveling" variant online when I made this in the pre-Xanathar's days of 5e. Plenty of stuff about E6 and E10 variants for 3e and 3.5e though. Nothing that quite...

D&D 5E Couple new Ideas, gauging interest

Sounds cool to me. If you're looking for other component ideas can I suggest (E) Energized? I call it charged in my games, but C is already taken. Anyway, I use it for powerful enemies, items, and spells. You have to use some amount of action economy to "power up" before using the ability. This...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

Initially I was going to say a standalone Blitzball game (from FFX). Taking that a step further, a game with a bunch of fantastical sports included. They could be fantastical versions of normal sports, taking a lot of inspiration from NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Mario Strikers, etc. Or they could be...

D&D General Homebrew Witch Class ideas +

In my experience reading about witchcraft a familiar and a fetch are two different things. A familiar is a spirit, most often in the form of an animal, that a witch bonds with. They work together, but the familiar is always it's own being with their own distinct personality. Whereas a fetch is...

D&D 5E Wonder why there aren't any Elemental Domains (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)?

This is interesting. In my mind I view druids as covering things that are elemental or naturally occurring. Whereas, clerics can make use of those things, but there is more intent or emotion behind it. Like a druid is a "noun" druid while a cleric is simultaneously a "noun" and "adjective"...

    D&D General A D&D Swashbuckler Class

Were you ordering from Steak & Shake when you wrote this? Your PF1 swashbuckler link suggests you were ordering a Frisco Melt. The rest worked fine.

Level Up (A5E) What are your common house rules?

I use a variant rule for AC calculations when unarmored. You get the equivalent AC of the worst armor available to you minus 1 AC. For no or light armor proficiency it's still the basic 10 + Dex. For medium armor folks it's 11 + Dex (max +2) and heavy gets 15. You can choose which one if more...

    D&D 5E Arcane Recovery strategy

I went one 2nd and two 1st level spells. 3rd level spells are some of the best bang for your buck spells around. But I've still got two of them remaining, whereas I'm mostly or completely drained everywhere else. I'd only take the single 4th level spell if I knew what was coming and had the...

The Oblivion Remaster Is Releasing Today. This Is Not A Drill.

They could just take a page out of Skyrim's book and throw a multiplier on the xp gained every time a skill is used. Xp gained = mana cost * school multiplier. Or change the xp needed to level up for each skill. Whichever is easier.

What Video Game RPG System Do You Want to See Adapted to Tabletop

Masteries from Everquest OA Frontiers. You choose a percentage of your xp to go towards class advancement and masteries. It's an MMORPG so classes and leveling are exactly what you expect. Masteries were more like feats that gave you bonuses to attributes, resistances, mana/stamina, etc. There...

And here I was hoping for another re-release of Skyrim.

How do you choose a class?

I put party dynamics at the forefront. Being the DM a lot, I like to let others choose their characters first and then make my character with that information. Let my fellow players drive it a bit since I get to do that so much when I'm on the other side of the screen. After that, I try to make...

    Trash TV Secret Shame

My wife and I like to watch The Ultimatum together. We pause a lot and talk about what we would do in these situations, if we agree/disagree with a person's actions, and generally use it to explore our own relationship values. I watch Love Island (UK) by myself and it is the best trash around.

What magic system that uses some form of power points (e.g. casting spell x costs 3 points) is your favorite?

Homebrew: you've got a bunch of dice as your pool. When you cast a spell any randomness component of the spell is dictated by the die roll. Some just use the roll while others have effects based on the range (1-3 does X, 4-6 does Y, etc). It was inspired by wanting to use 5e Battle Master dice...

D&D General Make up some new spell names

I felt inspired by @CleverNickName and their latest meme in the meme thread. For those that didn't see the meme the joke is that "Mike's Hard Lemonade" is a spell as it follows the naming convention of <person's name> <adjective> <noun> found in many famous D&D spells. Tenser's Floating Disk...

Same for me, but I'm doing 4 books per season. Each book gets its own 3-5 episode arc. Put in a side story episode once or twice a season. Give me 6 seasons and I'll do all 23 planned books. Certain younger characters can age up more or less in line with how they do in the books. Immortal...
