Anyone can take either of the backgrounds. A barbarian can take the Initiate of High Sorcery. The listed classes (fight/paladin and sorcerer/wizard) are able to skip the background requirement and just pick the feat as their bonus feat.

Yeah, I think that's totally fine in actuality. I want to believe WotC was conservative here to stop cries of OP power creep.

You're all going to be mad but, at first glance, I'm not seeing any alignment restrictions for the High Sorcery background options. There is intent though. Each of the orders have descriptions that clearly align to good/neutral/evil, but no mechanical requirement. I plan to work on that video...

Thank you but I'd disagree. If a player is looking at D&D Beyond (for example) for a list of Backgrounds, they could see these Backgrounds that explicitly give Feats. The Supernatural and Dark Gifts are an entirely different mechanical structure. Yes, of course, a DM can just tell the player...

To fight her, you'd basically need a party of those chaotic neutral murder hobos that just attack literally ever NPC and just jack up every game. Even evil characters probably wouldn't attack her...in context of the story.

Well, unless things go HORRIBLY wrong, you shouldn't need to fight her.
