    Eldritch Knight doesn't have any abilities that key off action surge until level 15, and even then it would be a simple matter to give Arcane Surge as a 1x/SR ability (2x from level 17).

    Eldritch Knight would require a very minor tweak at level 15 (if you ever get to that level) as the Arcane Surge ability keys off Action Surge. I'd just change it to 2x/SR (1x at L15 and 2x from L17 if you want a perfect match to o5e) and perhaps that it has to be combined with an Attack action...

    I just read this review and I think I agree with every single thing he says! The only thing I'd add is the design of the heritages, cultures and classes really shows some great ideas and love for building characters, not stat blocks.

    Not sure if this counts as a 'subtle' change, but Dragon lair actions are GONE. Replaced by "lair features" which are more about DM encounter and map design. But those features don't impact on action economy, for example.

    I think beyond running scene switches, the main answer is an out-of-character conversation with your friends about what makes a fun game for all of you, and how to avoid extended periods where one or more people aren't actually playing the game.
