1.5 instead of 1-2-1?

This is with regards to the diagonal movement problem.

1. I'm proposing that instead of doing 1-2-1 which people tend to lose track of, how about making diagonals 1.5 movment instead.

2. PCs with 0.5 or 1 move left can take the last step as a diagonal.

The math: It should actually be 1.41, so diagonals cost slightly more in my system, but 2. should off-set it sufficiently most of the time.

Eg 1: character with 6 move, does all diagonals, in theory he should move 4.25squares. Using the above systerm, he moves 4 squares. (the same, dropping fractions)

Eg 2: character with 13 move, does all diagonals, in theory moves 9.22squares.
Using the above system, he moves 9 squares. (again, dropping fractions)

It works up to 23 movment before it breaks down at 24 move. (where error = 1)

Well it's for a compromise houseruling, for those who are not happy with both 1-1-1 and 1-2-1. I'm proposing 1.5-1.5-1.5
The arguement against 1-2-1-2 is "I don't want to do math in my head" or it's cousin "my fellow players don't seem to be able to do math in their head", how does your solution fix this problem?

Just get rid of the grid, use a ruler and then 6" is 6" no matter which way you go...

I like Picasso, so 1-1-1 is fine for the cubist in me...

The engineer in me wants to scream though. ;)

How about 'movement = speed /2.5'? SPeed 30' = 12

Straight move = 2, diagonal = 3.

It's really the same thing as 1.5-1.5, but some people are funny about whole numbers vs. fractions.

If you do this, my suggestion is 'five foot step = 3 move step' and discard any unused movement.

Might want to jigger with reach to make it fit the rules properly.

You know, I don't really mind either system, but the constant discussion of it just makes me want to use hexes. (War gamer friends of mine complain enough about rulers that I don't want to use them.)

I have no interest in gaming with someone who can't figure out why 1, 2, 1 is in effect. This will be house-ruled back into *my* 4e. Oversimplification for the masses impresses me not. :p
