1 encounter + rest + 1 encounter = 2 AP?

The question is, do milestones get reset when you rest?

Else you could have the case of a party having a big fight, resting (which rests their AP to 1), and then having another fight in which they immediately receive 1 AP. A party could theoretically double their AP through fight and then rest, which is of course is the exact opposite of what AP are supposed to encourage.

No.
1 encounter + 1 encounter = 1 ap.

If you take an extended rest you go back to 1 ap. Short breaks are okay. To be more clear: If you rest you must do two encounters in a row again.

Since they can only use 1 per fight, I see little problem with them "doubling up". If they start doing it purposely so the first 3 fights of they day they always have an AP per fight, I might find ways to discourage such metagaminess(is that a word or did I just make it up?), but if it happens "naturally" it's ok with me.

But it can't happen. In order to gain an Action Point you must defeat 2 encounters in a row. You cannot take an extended rest or the count begins anew.

We have no idea if 2 encounters is a definite rule or a suggestion. Personally I would grant it when some kind of greater achievement is fulfilled such as fighting though a certain area or a wave of enemies.

I think he was suggesting that a party could get up in the morning, have a fight and use their APs, then extended-rest to reset APs, then have another fight and use their APs, then another extended rest, and so forth. Which would give them one AP per fight instead of per two fights.

But they'd have to rest for six hours in between every fight to manage it. And also I thought I read somewhere that you can only get one extended rest per day, and resting for six hours a second time in one day doesn't do anything special.
