+1 level of existing spellcasting class clarification

I have a quick question: If a class grants +1 level of existing spellcasting class, can this be used to improve the spells of another prestige class? If I'm a Paladin/ Pious Templar (CD) and take levels in Fist of Raziel (BoED) can I improve my Pious Templar spell progression?

I think yes, but could use a second opinion. Thanks in advance :D

Don't have a rule in front of me to back this up. But my instinct is to say:

Yes, if the PrC has its own spell list.

No, if the PrC is one that also grants +1 to an existing level, because then you have either an extra and meaningless step, a logical conflict that would cause brains to explode, or a cheesy loophole regarding the mystic theurge. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply :). That confirms what I believed, and it's nice to have a second opinion.

[Homer drool] Mmmmmm mystic theurge loopholes [/Homer drool]
