101 Anti RPG Sites

He's actually only in the whimpy, sliced "white" bread. Thick crusty bread, on the other hand, contains elves. Little bitty ones.

Oh, my bad. *fart* There goes the elves.

Are "D&D sucks" pages made by fans of other RPGs included, or do the grounds have to be religious?

No, those would not count. And the grounds do not have to be religious, certainly not. An article coming from a psychological perspective, law enforcement, anything and everything else: it's all good. Most of the ones that will be found probably will be from a out-in-far-right-feild religious/quasi-conhspiracy-theory slant because they seem to be the most common.

One thing I would love to find would be mention by or of any law-enforcement agency using RPG's as a profiling point. I know that in her heyday, Pulling spoke to several law enforcement bodies.

We're not looking for specifically 'anti-D&D' here. I want to see how many sites out there specifically mention RPG's as being a 'bad thing', particularly sites that speak from a 'position of authority' or actively try to get RPG's banned. News of RPG banning is also good. Mentions of studies conducted, proving either way are good.

The main reason I used 'Anti-D&D' is that it is the most high proifile RPG in the mind of the detractors, with 'Vampire' a distant second. Most never mention other RPG's, or even seem to be aware than others (and other genres besides fantasy or fantasy/horror) even exist. Or are not mentioning them because that would detract from their arguement.

I think I'll try changing the topic header to prevent this sort of confusion again.

I saw yesterday that 'Cruel Doubt', one of the most bizarre 'lets try to shoe-horn in as many anti-rpg statements as we can even though they have nothing to do with the plot' movies ever made, was airing again on Lifetime.

Random thoughts on Dark Dungeons:
* "Looks like the GM is offering Debbie a prestige class in the third panel."
* "Where'd these people get such tall miniautres?
* "Where'd that speaker get that awful hairdo?"
* "Forget the power. I'd sell my soul to that hottie GM anytime!"

You think she was hot? She looked about 40 to me...
Blackleaf was cool, and much better looking... I've always wanted to date an insane person.

I kind of compare the Chick tract material to the father in the American Pie movies. Well intentioned, with good things to say, but embarrassingly unhip. Mr. Chick is trying to "relate" to RPG'ers (or gang members, or rock n' roll fans, or whoever) by showing that he "understands". Well, it's glaringly obvious that he doesn't understand, and therefore his message is lost by all of us who are shaking our heads saying "no no no, you've got it ALL wrong."

I'd have to disagree with this. I think it's like any argument, there are fine lines that can be drawn anywhere within it and he's drawn them and pointed them out.

A lot of what he says COULD be possible. A lot of what he says has SOME validity. This is what makes him such a dangerous person. He's not THAT far fetched and uses enough coherent arguments that whatever outlandish things he says are all that much more believable.

This brings us to other unsavory aspects of the game. One pro-D&D psychologist wrote that "There is hardly a game in which the players do not indulge in murder, arson, torture, rape or highway robbery."1 In fact, the Dungeon Master's Guide gives the celebrated Adolph Hitler as an example of a real historical person that exhibited D&D charisma! The values contained in the game are, at the very best, "might makes right."

He's right! Have you played Baldur's Gate? Even I was shocked at just how murderous and savage the PC's were EXPECTED to be. And let's face it, many games have this aspect to it.

I can't remember the Hitler reference but I've seen it before in other RPG titles. And given the task of finding an example of a person with exceptional charisma, I'd pick Hitler too!

Writings such as this are an artform. Give the man credit for credit is due. He has, IMO, given the article a lot of thought and has written something that is incredibly manipulative and thought-provoking.

Throughout history, people have used various methods of denigrating their foes. One way is to actually praise them, especially after they've been beaten, for to do so is to make yourself all the grander.

Personally, I think Mr. Chick is beaten. And I don't mind giving him the credit for making a cognizent argument, since it only makes D&D all that much better for having proven him wrong.

[edit] The mistake that Mr. Chick makes is, when it comes to the part in the message of salvation about repenting from sin, HE tries to define sin for you. That's not his job!! It's between God and the individual. Mr. Chick's approach, therefore, does nothing to inspire anyone to want to be saved... it only offends the readers by stereotyping them.[/edit]
That's what has always bugged me about fanatical religious types. I mean, I'm not religious, I'm a death-bed agnostic, meaning I'll repent on my death-bed on the off-chance that God really does exist, but I respect your right to believe in what you want, as long as it doesn't infringe upon my right to believe what I want. But when someone goes around saying they KNOW what God is thinking and how one should act because what he says is the word of God... ack! I mean, how can any seriously religious person take someone like that seriously? That, in my mind, is the ultimate blasphemy! To say you know the mind of God... sheesh!

Wayne, could you take number 6 off that list? I personally am a big fan of that site because of its impartiality and fairness, and considering it says this:

The link between RPGs and Satanism breaks down over one important point: players do not worship other deities when playing Dungeons and Dragons® and similar games. They do not even recognize their existence. The names of other Gods and Goddesses are merely mentioned in passing.

I don't see how it can be considered anti RPG. Falanor mentioned this too...

Yes, I was correct! It is not the D&D that turns kids into murderers! It's the bread! Ahhh! The devil is in the bread! Smite the bread!
Actually, it's been discovered that a preservative in most breads, even the ones containing elves, can cause severe mood disorders in even small doses. I think it was 221 (the number given to the additive, much like MSG is 621 or 624).

Not that that's here nor there, mind you, just one of those many things that I know that are utterly useless except for pointing out on message boards :D
