101 Anti RPG Sites

Also, I feel the need to pipe in with my usual "It makese sense to them" statement. To these guys, this is rational, and if you accept the same precepts they do, it follows fairly naturally. They're not EXTREMELY WAY OUT WHACKY ANTI-HIPSTERS so much as they're probably just interpreting things in a way we don't like, though it makes some sense.

The logic works...it's just that most wouldn't assume the things that they do have to be iterpreted in the way they say. It's valid and rational -- it's just not popular or common or (IMHO, of course) very constructive. :)

So, like I do in every thread abuot this stuff, lemme say:

"I defend the argument that D&D is evil and destructive, though I don't believe it myself"

Baraendur, although that is probably the funniest thing I've read in ages, there's a lot of stuff in there that would offend Eric's Grandma. Perhaps you should remove the link?

Wayne, could you take number 6 off that list? ...I don't see how it can be considered anti RPG. Falanor mentioned this too...

Oh, it's not, not at all. The article contains references to the same arguements and apocryphal statements used by most of our detractors; its bibliography is a good jumping off point for other people looking for the kinds of links I wanted to find; most of the sites mentioned in my post are also referenced there, so it makes a good reference even though the article itself is pro-RPG's, as is Mike Stackpole's study.

Seems to be about the Darren Molitor murder case rather than school shootings; nevertheless, congratulations for finding a David Icke page that isn't about alien lizards taking over the world ;)

Indeed. There are no lizards taking over the world. None. Ignore David Icke.

Some more I found in casual looking. I've been weeding out all the stuff that merely reprints 198* propaganda or 'accounts', as well as the stuff that merely duplicates itself (All the Moliter letter pages, for example.

Now, #19 has to be about the most disturbing and recent one I've found so far. Interesting that they send spies, eh?

#20, as well as #12 by Nifft... These are jokes. The other stuff on #12's page just screams parody, though nothing approaching the cleverness and humor of, say, Landover Baptist. #20... most of the links are broken [The ones about Peter Adkinson's appearance, linking him to a site about Applewhite and Stalin, were particularly funny], and the ones that do work don't seem like the things 'Beatrice' would be looking at. The more I look at it, the more it smells of Troll :) However, it's written in enough of that same tone that I'm willing to bet that it gets referrenced by other, serious, sites as 'proof'. So I tihnk awareness of it is good.

Wow, this guy's even better than Jack Chick. Now here is a guy who the D&D community should fear...

Quote from David L. Brown PhD

Let's look at the "alien" situation first. As I have explored the games that focus on this theme, I have discovered that many of the alien being characters are shown to be more powerful, more advanced and smarter than humans. Their power is almost always occult based and in many of the games the alien beings are considered "gods." This is a problem because it subtly undermines the Bible's teaching that man is God's unique, special creation whom He loves (John 3:16).

I really hope that one day a race of highly developed aliens comes to earth and says, "Nyah, nyah, WE'RE the favoured of Dog!" and then zaps us all...

Seriously though, if you want to compile a link list of anti-RPG sites, then just send this guy a polite email citing your interest in the subject matter, I bet he has a bundle!

I might look for some example sites later, maybe. But, first, most of the anti-D&D are misinformed about the hobby. But then again, you can find people that are misinformed about anything. <Place your own example here.>
