101 D&D Miniatures for Easter

MojoGM

First Post
The title says it all, well just about.

As my Easter gift this year, Djeta purchased a bunch of miniatures off E-Bay for me, for use in our bi-weekly D&D games. So, just about every day next week there will be at least one package waiting for me when I come home from work. This should just about double my collection. She's the best! And even though she KNOWS that they will end up fighting most of what she bought, she didn't hesitate getting me the really nasty looking ones (I guess she figures they'll be worth a lot of xp :) )

Easily the best Easter yet!

And last month she bought me an entire CASE of Dragoneye...for no reason whatsoever!

I've been on a miniature buying binge myself lately, bought about 48 on E-Bay and a bunch from Popular Collections (a really great site by the way, they send out shipments usually by the following day).

So, to keep this on topic, how do you buy your miniatures? Do you buy the packs and trade, or just order online the ones you want?

:o

Um, I'm going to deeply, deeply regret the 10 orc raiders aren't I?
:uhoh:

To any members of our group that might stumble upon this post...

I DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE 5 ABYSSAL EVISCERATORS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT...

:uhoh:

:o

:D

@djeta: I guess he'll be hating the 8 "Abyssal Maws" and 12 "Snig the Axe's" even more *laugh*

No serious - I buy lots' of packs and sell my excess minis via ebay - at least in Germany there is far greater demand on Ebay than offer and I'd recommend everybody to do that...

Last Week a mind flayer went for € 50 (That's $60, compare to a suggested retail booster price of €12,50 that is $ 15) - so demand over here is pretty bad...

If more people were to buy a lot of packs/sell excess more people would be able to get the minis they want, prices would be more affordable and everybody would benefit (except the capitalist pigs who buy boosters for selling contents at ebay)

But that's my opinion on the topic :-)

Actually, last time I ordered from Popular Collections, I got a Snig the Axe for her because she thinks he is "cute" :)

You're exactly right. Which is why I never railed against the whole collectable aspect like a lot of people did. So far, I've been able to buy miniatures for less than a $1 each, and I consider that a tremendous bargain.

We buy a lot of cases / boosters / singles not on Ebay as well. But Ebay is just cheaper for shipping purposes around here. Yikes. $60 for one rare? Wow. I would not pay that. No way. I saw an auction for about 4 rares (various) up around $50-$60 the last time I checked on it.

My max is $10. For anything, but usually for lots of at least 5-10 depending on what they are.

Check www.popularcollections.com for cheap singles. I know that they ship worldwide, but not sure how much they charge for shipping. If you can't find them in local stores, they might be a good place to start. We've always had great luck with them.

:)

Man, I'm addicted to Ebay. In the past two weeks, I've bought 300+ minis. Funny thing is, there's probably no more than 30 different types of minis. I just love having piles of hobgoblins, elves, etc.

OKOK I confess - I'm 100% male and when posting my earlier thread I didn't think about the cuteness factor of "Snig the Axe"

I apologize :-)
However "Snig" needs not be mad at me - I gave him (the one I kept) a real great paintjob before placing him in my vitrine and I promise I will use him by the next 5 game sessions *fingers not crossed*

*ROTFL*

Nevertheless - for us in Germany it makes little sense to order individual minis in the US since shipping and import duties really kills the price... - unless you order by the dozen whereupon you'd still be betteroff buying boosters... Of course, the guy who bought the Mind Flayer at €50 would have probably been cheaper ordering in the US but "usually" rares are going around here at € 20 for Harbingers, € 10-12 for dragoneye and archfiends (1 € is ~$1,20)... I just took an extreme example that almost made my toenails curl to illustrate my point, so maybe if people stopped being crazy paying those prices and followed my example ;-)

I am ALL about the D&D minis. I have blossomed my collection of them since AF came out, and will probably continue to buy them for quite awhile.

I was able to convince a large portion of my friends to get into the game, and we all play fairly regularly. I am even considering going to the D&D Miniatures Championship qualifiers, because I have a pretty good record against my friends. I just need to improve my war band building skills.

In fact D&D miniatures even pulled me back to d20 after I got lured away by other games. Mainly so that I can further justify my ownership of them ("I can use the for tabletop gaming too!")
