This is known as the coupon collector's problem, and mercifully N is only 13. The expected number of minis to buy would be

13(1+1/2+1/3+1/4+1/5+1/6+1/7+1/8+1/9+1/10+1/11+1/12+1/13) =41.3

So you should budget for about 40 minis if you want a complete set. Much more efficient to trade, of course...

Perhaps. We don't have info on varying rarities among the figurines, or if each box purposefully offers a complete set (which is sometimes the case).

I'm also curious about the figurine size, material, and paint quality. My interest is piqued, but . . . .

I like 'em all, but I could live comfortably without the ghoul and the rust monster.

My favorites are the mind flayer (of course), the fire elemental, and the displacer beast.
