15 levels of Mystic Theurge

What would be the impact on game balance if I increased the number of levels in the Mystic Theurge Prestige Class to 15?

It would then 'close the gap' that exists for most characters between MT lvl 10 and Character level 20.

Ok, taking a few steps back to clarify:

When you decide to focus on MT, you are going for a wide variety of spells at the cost of delaying access to high level spells.
You can probably get into the class at lvl 8 or earlier.

Let's assume you enter at lvl 8.
So, when you reach lvl 18, you have the following options:
1. pick up levels from your original two classes (one at a time)
2. try to find another arcane/divine dual progression prestige class
3. take some other classes until you reach lvl 21 and can take epic levels in MT

Since I would prefer option 2, I suddenly realised that this was rather silly if the same could be accomplished by just expanding the existing PrC.

Hence my question: what would be the balance issue?

Herzog

ps: Please don't start about the Epic Level MT. I know it sucks.

You can get in at 6th level. At 16th level, you are casting as 13th wiz/13th clr (or the equivalent). Thereafter, you can get to 9th level spells by taking 4 additional levels in either wiz or clr.

I think this is fair and balanced. Getting 9th level spells in both wiz and clr without going epic would be a bit silly.

Hi Herzog, looks like we are really working on the same topic here. have you voiced the idea to your fellow players / DM? Any reactions you'd wish to share?

@gavagai:
No, just 'thinking aloud' on the forums, hoping to get some feedback here.
I think you where the one that 'inspired' my thoughts on this in another thread?

@hong:
I don't consider 'silly' a valid balancing argument.
my example Wiz/Drd/MT/AH was meant to show that even in the current ruleset
getting both arcane and devine 9th level spells at 20 is possible. so, even if it where 'silly', its in the RAW.

What I (would) find 'silly' is stacking PrC onto PrC up to lvl 20+ while adding a few more lvls of the same PrC would make much more sense.

RAW is off-topic in House Rules.
