16 years, 400+ sessions, and the campaign is done!

We just finished up my campaign, a little over 16 years from when we started it back in '92. It spanned three editions, but the characters progressed steadily and finished up at about lvl 23-24. It was the right time to stop - both story-wise and because the math was getting onerous - but our last game was great, with several PCs giving their life to save everything they held dear and other PCs getting to live because of their sacrifice.

When it was over, we just sort of sat there for a few minutes. Feels weird. I think we'll hold one more session where we have dinner and everyone can ask me any question they can think of.

In any case, I wanted to thank everyone here. The amount of support and ideas I've gotten over the last nine years has been incredible. My campaign was far, far better for it.

I know exactly how you feel. I recently ended my 10 year campaign because I moved away. It becomes something you're used to. I'd imagine it's like what the cast and crew of a long running television show must feel when they film their last episode. You become attached to these characters and the world that you play in.

That's cool, man. I hope I can play in such a long-term campaign someday. My group is lucky to keep a campaign going for 6 months and I think our best is a couple of years.

Congratulations. I often perused your story hour. It looked like a fun campaign that you spent alot of time building. Glad to hear you kept it going to the end allowing your loyal players to have a good ending with what will probably be their favorite and most memorable character for the rest of their DnD playing days.

It'll be fun to see what you do for your next campaign.

What's next?

Will the new campaign have any shared continuity with the old, or do you feel like starting in a completely new environment?

Have you considered commissioning someone to produce a piece of artwork commemorating part of the climactic session?

And many more...

Congrats Piratecat, that is one amazing feat of DM'ing. I was proud when I managed to run a 2.5 year long campaign with our group, who had previously never stuck with a campaign for longer than 6 months.

Well, I hope your next campaign lasts twice as long!

Awesome! Now you just need to get caught up on you story hour and you'll really be done! :D Seriously, though it looked like a great campaign and I had a lot of fun reading about it. Congrats.

I wish you a hearty congratulations.

The longest I campaign I've ever been involved in lasted 3 and a half years (I Dm'd) and I was sad to see it go, so I can only imagine the emotions you must be feeling.

Wow! That's an impressive feat, for your group and for you as a DM in particular.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the well-earned jealousy flowing your way!

Congratulations, -- N
