Don't know if this has ever come up before but, in the spirit of adding fun elements to play, how about having 19 and 20 as bonuses on a d20 roll. Not the same, but an 'enhanced' 19 standard bonus and then the full impact for a 20?

So, would 2 be a partial fumble?

"You succeed to not fail so barely that everyone gives you a funny look."

Edit: ugh. I think I rolled a 2.

In 1e and 2e we house ruled that that a 20 was an automatic success and rolled on the original critical hits and fumbles tables in the old Dragon magazine, and a 19 was a fifty percent chance to hit.

In 3.5e, some weapons scored a possible crit on a 20, others on a 19 - 20. If you had a keened weapon that increased the chance and with the right enchantments you can further increase the chance to score a critical hit all the way fown to 15 - 20.

So it's not really a new idea.

But one I still like.

Random dice rolls can be quite interesting at times because luck can go really good or really bad.

And that was happening often enough to warrant its own term, huh? :p

In large parts of Glasgow if you don't like someone it's customary to break a beer glass in their face. Jabbing a thumb in their eye is more like male bonding. Though quite a lot of the guys share out the punches, jabs and glassings to their wives and girlfriends :-S
