1957 Time Capsule to be unearthed in two years

A Plymouth Belvedere that was buried in a concrete vault nearly 50 years ago as part of the state's golden anniversary celebration will be unearthed in 2007 as part of the Oklahoma centennial festivities.

The 1957 Belvedere is underground next to the Tulsa County Courthouse. Also buried with it were five gallons of gas and a case of beer.

Old news reports indicate the gas was buried in case internal combustion engines became obsolete by 2007 and no fuel was available.

Ah, Naiveté. Just about everything from 1957 EXCEPT ICE's are obsolete.

Ah, the unbridled optimism of the 50s. I'm actually surprised they buried tires. I figured they would have guessed that all cars would be flying around by 2007.

my only concens are whether A) the vault is air tight. and B) the gas containers are properly sealed....


God fobid they crack the vault and someone happens to light a cigar to celebrate.
