2003 - Year of d20 Roleplaying Boom?

Knightfall

World of Kulan DM
Ok, has anyone else looked at the upcoming products on the horizon for 2003 and just started drooling. My god, there's so much stuff coming it's INSANE!

Now the question is, is 2003 going to be a boom year for d20 products or will it just go boom!

Recent announcements (that I can think of):

MECHS GALOR
GoO d20 Mecha
DP9 d20 Mecha Compedium
WarMech - Armageddon 2089

NEW RIGHTS
Dragon Fist sold to Green Ronin
Gamma World rights to SSS/WW

D20 MODERN GOES OGL
d20 Modern SRD released (sure it's now but it will make so much possible for 2003)

Did I miss anything huge?

Cheers!

I'm not familiar with Blaxpluzmuffinwhatever. What the heck is it, prey tell? From the name, it should be pretty cool.

I'm talkin' about the d20 System!

Who's the black private dick
That's a sex machine to all the chicks?
SHAFT!
Ya damn right!

Who is the man that would risk his neck
For his brother man?
SHAFT!
Can you dig it?

Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about?
SHAFT!
Right On!

They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother
SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft.
THEN WE CAN DIG IT!

He's a complicated man
But no one understands him but his woman
JOHN SHAFT!

Don't forget the d20 Blaxploitation game.

I can hardly wait to use it in my CoC game. Or Blacthulhu game, I should say.
A, Blackthulhu, the game where Blackthulhu drives everyone nuts by saying "Say wha'? Shut yo mouth!" over and over again.

Which is good for players but not so good for the publishers (who'll have to divide the same pie into smaller pieces).

I would advise people to get what they find cool right away, because at that volume of releases, stuff won't stay on the shelves for long -- else the stores will need to expand their square footage fast. :)

I recently moved, and as a result I got to go through my entire game collection again. I read two editorials in game magazines asking the above, though with variations. One was from 1995, the other 1989. In short, it's always about to go boom!, but it never actually happens. All you get is a lot of dead companies, and invariably a set of new ones to replace them.

Yep. And don't forget that our upcoming CORE Command (March 2003), although not a D20 game, will have a complete OGL conversion section.

I have to agree, the boom or bust trend has been floating around the industry as long as I can remember. RPGs are a fickle audience and trends in what is popular changes about once a year. I think we can credit the DnD boom to the anticipation and later success of the LOTR film and I don't see it slowing down with the new movie, even with the LOTR RPG being available.

These same rumours have been floating around the comic book industry every 5 or so years. Pros are always worried that something will happen and take their cushy job away from them. Comics are at an all time low, but on an upswing.

Great googley moogley! Marc Vezina's on these boards now! Welcome Marc -- all us long time fans of DP9 products are especially happy to see you here.

And all of my hard-sf gaming buddies are *drooling* in anticipation of Core Command. (Which we will play with the Silhouette System, thank-you-very-much! :) )
