2004 in-game regret

As a player: not getting to play enough, or at least enough to maintain the campaign momentum, which is easy to lose, and tough to regain.

As a DM: not having enough skill with the D20 system (I love the system, I'm just not that great at running it), not being prepared enough overall, and not having enough awareness to see when the assault on the yuan-ti stronghold was headed for disaster. Result? TPK. If it had been a heroic TPK, full of glorious moments and epic action, I think I would have felt better about it, but it spiraled out of control, and I didn't take enough time to step back, analyze, and try some repairs that could have made things better.

Pushing that big red candy-like button.
I knew it was trapped, as a player. It just screamed TRAPTRAPTRAP.
My character, the very wise Dwarf fighter/cleric wouldn't have pushed it.
But I know that I, as a DM hate when the players don't trigger the trap. I mean, where is the fun in avoiding all the calamity and not even _knowing_ what could happen.
So I pushed it.
So I guess I regret it.

But it was fun... :-D

As a longtime DM, I'd just like to extend my thanks. That story made my day.

And, Green_Dragon_Studio, that sounds like the stuff, and character, that great role-playing stories are made of.

Dammit - now you guys are making me curious. Details, please!

Well, I did say something stupid, and it did have rather relevant effects on my character, but I didn't feel like the entire character concept was ruined by the experience.

But hey, if it makes Piratecat upset, then that would qualify as my regret.

I'll have to keep an eye on this thread and see if Kev responds...
