2004 Oscars (Pick your winners!)

BEST PICTURE - Lost in Translation

While I would like to see RotK win, I think Sofia will bag it.

BEST ACTOR - Bill Murray, Lost in Translation

Same here, Bill Murray was great, and while I don't think it's primarily why he'll get the award, he deserves it.

BEST ACTRESS - Diane Keaton, Something's Gotta Give

Going with the elder thing here - Theron is good, but Keaton is older.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Tim Robbins, Mystic River

No real competition here, IMO.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain

Not here either, Renee is the darling of Hollywood right now.

BEST DIRECTOR - Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation

Again, I think Sofia will bag best director, and hence best picture.

BEST FOREIGN FILM - The Twilight Samurai, Japan

Went with a guess here.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

This is the big guess... it could be anyone's game here. I went with RotK solely because I think Lost in Translation will get best picture, and this will be the consolation.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation

No doubt here.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM - Brother Bear

Finding Nemo was great, but this did pretty well so far.

BEST ART DIRECTION - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Nothing to see here...

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - Cold Mountain

Again, another pity win here, especially since it got snubbed (and rightly so).

BEST SOUND MIXING - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
BEST SOUND EDITING - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

I went with Pirates because they'll be given something too, and the sound was pretty good.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Howard Shore
BEST ORIGINAL SONG - "Into the West" from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Fran Walsh, Howard Shore and Annie Lennox

These won't be a contest.

BEST COSTUME - The Last Samurai

Eh, who knows?

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE - Capturing the Friedmans
BEST DOCUMENTARY (SHORT SUBJECT) - Chernobyl Heart

Guessed.

BEST FILM EDITING - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King

Eh, why not. I think it'll win in the effects, why not here too?

BEST MAKEUP - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Another why not. I thought the costumes were pretty good too, but it wasn't nominated.

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM - Destino
BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM - Two Soldiers

Guessed.

VISUAL EFFECTS - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Because it'll be fashionable.

BEST PICTURE - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Comments: Two years overdue.

BEST ACTOR - Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Comments: When is the last time we had a three-way race for one of the major acting awards? I may be going with my heart a bit too much here, but I think Depp might pull this off.

BEST ACTRESS - Charlize Theron, Monster

Comments: And having finally seen this film, whoa does she deserve it.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Tim Robbins, Mystic River

Comments: The real predicition should be whether or not his speech will have any political commentary.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain

Comments: Aghdashloo scares me in this race, but I think after three years of being nominated, the Academy will feel Renee is due.

BEST DIRECTOR - Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Comments: This isn't even close.

BEST FOREIGN FILM - The Barbarian Invasions, Canada

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Gary Ross, Seabiscuit

Comments: This film has to have fans with what seven nominations. I feel they might give Ross the win here to make up for the directing snub.

Comments: Nepotism if nothing else, although she's a very classy lady. I just think the film is overrated.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM - Finding Nemo

Comments: Not even close.

BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM - (A) Torzija (1/8A 3/8 Torsion)

Okie doke. It's getting awful close. Let's give it just a few more minutes from this post for people to get their entries in, if anyone else wants to participate. :)
