2005 WotC d20 Modern product: d20 Apocalypse

We're all probably better off that WotC *doesn't* put out more d20 Modern products. The entire product lines of TGM and RPGO are amazingly high quality and these designers might have been discouraged from the space if WotC had a more complete line.

Cos that's the way it worked with D&D...

Well, being a huge fan of Fallout, I'm not against the idea of radiation. I just love the added "Robots Gone Wild" and the d20 GW "Naughty Nanites" ideas as well. I'm more prone to let people have negative mutations, and let them sink or swim and see which defect is actually a strength. ;)

What I really want is Fallout, without me having to convert. :p

And nothing yet has quite captured that. But going back to "the bomb", that was a major part of the appeal of Fallout, the '50s style intros and art. I'm just terribly confused. :D
Personally, I have always felt that Darwin's World II captures the feel of Fallout extremely well.

As to D20 Apocalypse, I'm glad they are continuing the Toolkit theme. It's such a great idea.

I am an old-school, die-hard Gamma World fan from back in the day. I'm talkin' 1980, folks. I'm talkin' the 1st edition, the one with the Buck Rogers guys about to enter that ruined city.

I've never lost my love for Gamma World, but man, oh man, did I come close with some of the recent offerings, particularly 4th edition, the Alterntiy edition (5th edition), and Sword and Sorcery's debacle, the 6th edition/d20 edition. I'm not going to get into why I loathed Sword and Sorcery's version of Gamma World...most people seem to have shared that opinion, and it's well-documented on this and other forums.

Suffice it to say that I am hoping, truly and completely, that D20 Apocalypse is the Gamma World I once loved...and will love again.

I'm with you Sebastian. I started playing GW in '84 and I've loved it ever since. I would love a d20 take on GW 1st/2nd edition. None of the current offerings really deliver that. Have you seen Earth AD?

I can't say I am a huge post-apoc fan, and I was a bit disappointed in d20 Past. I will buy this regardless, though. There is always something good to skeef from a WOTC book, even if I don't use the book as it is designed to be used.

If I may ask, what was it about d20 Past you didn't like? Was it not the kind of information you expected? Did you feel the information that was included was badly done?

I noted my thoughts in this thread, and there are some other good opinions I agree with there as well.

Questions for the d20 Apoc designers

I'm eagerly anticipating d20 Apocalypse, but I'm concerned about the relatively small size--96 pages seems awfully short. I'm wondering if one of the designers can comment on what will be included, perhaps a Table of Contents? I'll understand if an NDA keeps you quiet, of course.

I also have a few specific questions/comments (if you're allowed):

-Will there be rules for Bartering? If so, will they still involve a Wealth bonus mechanic? While I feel the Wealth mechanic is a phenomonal way to abstract credit cards, salaries, and all-around purchasing power in a Modern (or Future) setting, it seems to me that a character's wealth in a post-apocalyptic setting would be far more similar to D&D--you've got what you can carry on your back and if you need something else you better have something specific you can trade for it. I've read the bartering rules in d20 Future and while they still work, I guess I'm hoping for something different.

-How many Occupations will be listed?

-I naturally assume there will be rules for mutations and radiation in d20 Apoc, am I correct? If so, will the same rules from d20 Future be reprinted in d20 Apoc? Will the d20 Future material be expanded upon (more mutations)? I'd personally prefer they be reprinted so I can get all my post-apoc stuff from one book, though I can understand the point of view of those who'd disagree.

-Will there be overlap between d20 Future and d20 Apoc in terms of gear/weapons?

-Will there be rules for simulating differences in various cultures' technological levels? For example, will there be ways to reflect how a tribal type of culture wouldn't have Computer Use and the like while the residents of Vault 13 would?

-Speaking of which, how many of the designers know and love the Fallout games? How well will d20 Apoc be able to support the Fallout setting? I'm guessing that 96 pages means no specific setting will be detailed, which is totally reasonable, but I REALLY would love to run a Fallout game.

Well, they have to make money, otherwise, Hasbro's accountants would strongly advise they discontinue the d20 Modern line, core rulebook and all.

Personally, I would see that as a bad thing in the long and short run.
