PatrickLawinger said:I said this last year and got flamed to hell for it, the Ennies aren't valid advertising. A nomination is great, an award is better, but (at least for print publishers) neither is going to drive massive sales (this is certainly different for some .pdf publishers).
If anyone thinks that the Ennies staff is under any illusions here, that person is mistaken.
If perchance I am mistaken and someone on the Ennies staff thinks that, they need to pay more attention to the discussions in the Ennies forum. And, well, to the dozens and dozens of people we had to explain precisely what the Ennies are every year.
Though we are aware than the visibility of the awards is low, this is a topic that we are always considering means to address. And hopefully, as the visibility improves, so will its value to publishers. And it is clear from discussions with publishers that some publishers do make the decision on whether or not to enter based upon the perceived advertising value.
The primary goal of the Ennies is to recognize the efforts of the hard working and creative folks in the RPG industry. But the more people that recognize the Ennies, the more meaningful our efforts to become.
