2024 D&D Character Sheets Available to Download

The newly designed character sheets for Dungeons & Dragons are now available on D&D Beyond's website. The new sheets were created for use with the new 2024 revised 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons and were released as part of the early release launch of the 2024 Player's Handbook on D&D Beyond. Notably, the new character sheets are condensed from 3 pages to 2, contain attunement slots for magic items, and place various skill proficiency stats under their corresponding core ability score. Also, the new character sheet contains various technical updates, such as "Heroic Inspiration" replacing inspiration and "Species" replacing "Races." Please note that this is not a fillable PDF, so you'll have to print it and fill it out on your own.

This marks the first time since 2014 that D&D has updated its official character sheets, with print copies eventually going on sale in a couple of weeks. Also to come are several campaign tracker sheets that will be available as part of the to-be-released Dungeon Master's Guide.

I've also noticed there is no place to mark exhaustion!?!

Frankly, if I was doing it from scratch, I would not bother with the Personality, Background, etc. boxes and not bother with all the spell info.

I'm working on a more "revised" version and about to tackle the spell section. I've already added Sorcery Points to the Spell Slots area, but I would like your input on the following:

1. Are things like Casting Time, Range, CRM, and Notes really necessary? Removing some of these would allow more room for the Spell Name.
2. I'll be adding a box to mark for Prepared spells, should that be at the beginning (near level), or at the end (after Notes) since many casters don't prepare spells.

My personal thoughts are:

Special casting times (bonus action, reaction, etc.) can be put under Notes. Since the vast majority of spells are 1 action, I feel like a "box" / area for casting time is not necessary.

Prepared could be added to the CRM section for classes that prepare spells maybe? Or it could be its own thing so it is more distinguishable.

Material isn't really needed. Special matierials with a cost can be written under Notes and other Materials are covered under foci and component pouches, which PCs will have so why note there is a Material component?

Unless it would be useful to have VS as well as M???

Anyt thoughts? Anyone??

Like you mentioned below, most casting times are 1 Action, so any unusual casting times can simply be listed under Notes. Maybe it's just my tiny handwriting, but I can usually fit the casting time and/or distance in parentheses where I write the spell's name and I will put a circled C or R after that [i.e Arcane Eye (30') ©]

The 2014 sheet had it at the beginning. I know a lot of Druid and Cleric players will often write their most frequently used spells on the sheet and use the "prepared" circle to denote which ones they are preparing each day. That way, they limit the amount of erasing and rewriting when they change up their list.

If you look at the spell lists in each class, it seems that they only list an M if the spell has a material component with a GP value. So that's how I've been using the diamond box on the 2024 sheet. As you said, that can be handled under Notes.

In a perfect world, it would be nice to have all the above information at hand. But for the sake of organizing the spells by level, some of that information is superfluous and can be left to the Notes line.

For what it's worth :

In the 'official' pdf 2014 character sheet spell section, I made it a habit to add the following information after the spell's name :

- The words 'melee', 'ranged', or '(which) saving throw', damage type, and the page number in the Player's Handbook (#PHB X) (or other book) where he full description of the spell is. Also, I put an '+' (or '-') after the spells name to tell me that I currently have the components needed to cast the spell (if so required) or not. When I fill this out in the official 2014 pdf character sheet and print it, this is still readable and functional (although my own handwriting would be too big to fit in that same space). I realize that this still doesn't tell you if the spell requires concentration and what the range is, but having the relevant page number of the relevant book noted behind the spell's name makes it easy to look it up before your next turn starts.
 

Oh, almost forgot: the little 'dot' (to either fill in or not) in the 2014 character sheet spell sections, to tell you if you currently have the spell prepared or not (as a wizard) also helps a lot.

Much of those types of "combat spells" would put such information under the weapons/attack spells section on the front IMO. I figure the Notes section would be a handy place for the page reference if you want it.

The 'weapons & damage cantrips' section on the first page (of the 'official' 2024 Character Sheet PDF) seems to be too small to list all the spells you (or perhaps only a wizard) might have. Also, I put some of that same information there not only for 'damage' spells, but also for something like a battlefield control spell like 'web', like this :

web (20-foot cube, dex save [fail restrained, str save] #287)

As for the specific info I regularly need to look up in the relevant book (PHB or otherwise), is either the range, or the 'additional' effects a spell does besides damage, like for example "shocking grasp" or "tasha's mind whip".

IME most players don't list spells unless out-right attack or cantrips. Somethine like Web would be on the back.

With 6 spots for weapons/spells on the front, I think in general that is sufficient for most player. Most the sheets I design personally range from 4-6 spots for such info.
