D&D (2024) 2025 Monster Manual All You Need to Know video link is up.

But imperfect systems can intimidate a DM enough to not want to bother, or to try to make some that doesn't work and become frustrated and quit. In that regard, imperfect rules ARE the same as no rules because the net effect (a DM who cannot make a monster) is the same.
That's not a bad point.

But I have an idea. Most of the complaints that I see about the monster creation rules in the 2014 DMG sure look to me like people didn't read them (or didn't remember what they read). Things like thinking the hit point values for the defensive CR are way too high, for example. Of course they are. Because they only apply at that CR if the AC is what the table says and there are no features that say to treat the AC as higher, which is usually not the case, and is designed to not be the case.

So maybe @dave2008 or I should start a "Let's Build a Monster" thread and show a simple example of using the system and getting the results it claims. (And let's be honest, I might never have the energy to get to it, so @dave2008, you're our best option here.)

I'm going to be busy working on my 2024 monster creation guidelines. So maybe after that!

A person with a PDF copy provided by WotC said there no monster rules in it. There was a link to the video in one of the threads. FYI, that person called the book a 9/10, so overall good!
they gave it a 9/10 because they blamed the DMG for not having the monster creation rules, so it did not affect the MM score.

Still, a good score for the MM as an MM, I believe they said it is their favorite official MM (or at least the one that got the highest score on their channel)

It shouldn't be too hard for us to reverse engineer and modify the 2014 guidelines to fit the new math.

(In no way am I saying that they shouldn't have provided it in an official product. Hopefully, they still will. I'm just saying that while waiting for it, we should share what we come up with).

So, you want to reverse engineer something that didn’t work for 2014 monsters, in order to make something that doesn’t work for 2024 monsters.
Haw! You got me! And you have a point.

However, I was simply trying to be community-minded, with the idea that for those that want those rules - we can come up with them and share.

Just something completely unrelated to everything before (if it was not mentioned already).

I think Legendary Resistance should have worked like the Empyrean stun:

If the Legendary Monster uses it, they should receive 1d6 damage per spell level or so. That way, the caster feels a little less bad when the monster uses that kind of cheat.
