20th level monk

Am I correct in assuming that the monk, at 20th level, is only treated like an outsider for the purpose of some spells and abilities? Because, if not, at level 20, they get 60ft darkvision, and suddenly become proficient in all simple and martial weapons, plus shields if they have any armor proficiencies.

That seems a bit odd.

weel, it's not that odd, at least on my campaigns it wouldn't be. I treat my monks like a buddhist kind of character. upon reaching lvl 20, it's like if they had achieved a buddha -like state.
"A Buddha is a person who has developed all positive qualities and eliminated all negative qualities. A Buddha was an "ordinary" human like you and me before he/she became enlightened. Enlightenment is compared to awakening, as a person suddenly expereinces a complete transformation of body and mind from sleeping to waking up. One could say that a Buddha represents the very peak of evolution, as he/she is omniscient or all-knowing."

"A Buddha is different from "God" in the Christian-Judeo-Islamic sense in that he/she is not the creator of the universe, is not omnipotent (all-powerful), and the state of Buddhahood can be reached by every living being (although it may take many lives). However, a Buddha is omniscient (knows everything) and can in that way be of tremendous help to other living beings."

both copied from http://buddhism.kalachakranet.org/buddha.html

so, it would seem kinda logic, that they would get such profiiencies

No, that's not right.

You're basically gaining a template. Gaining the template doesn't give you the weapon proficiencies and other such stuff.

OK, then. It just felt 'off' to have monks suddenly get all these bonuses at level 20 which their flavor up to this point has pretty much gone completely against.

She is forevermore treated as an outsider rather than as a humanoid (or whatever the monk’s creature type was) for the purpose of spells and magical effects.

No darkvision, no weapon proficiencies. You are just treated as an outsider for purposes of adjudicating magical effects. You do not truely become an outsider.

That's what I was reading it as, because it seemed out of place otherwise.

Also note, that your type doesn't change at all. For example, a ranger with Favored Enemy (humanoid (human)) would still gain the bonuses, against a 20th-level human monk.

I think the type does change, otherwise spells like Charm Person would still work.

If true, that makes favored enemy (outsider, native) a lot less useful. :\

Severed Head, are you sure that gaining a template never grants darkvision? That seems to be quite an assertion.
