I've been using Maptool for my online game lately and it is really functional. Takes a bit to get used to but once you are there you can import any icons and maps you need and off you go.

Som of the he problems I have with VB in practice could be solved by not letting the players move the pieces. I've used maptool and the big headache was setup. Although FWIW, VB was slower to setup, but I can use google spreadsheets or VB at work.

Well, I tried maptool but is completely opaque to me. I couldn't even figure how to import a damn map!

I am looking at GIMP, now. At least I was immediately successful in importing the map. Let's see how convenient it is with token.

For moving tokens around...

Be sure to have an extra layer above the map level, which is completely empty and transparent. There you put the tokens in. To move them, you just mark them with the rectangle select tool, cut it out and paste it, then move it around via drag and drop and anchor it by clicking somewhere next to it on the map. That's really easy to do.

To save the map as an image you best use the Save a Copy function and save it as .jpg or whatever suits you. The map itself should be kept in GIMPs proprietary format (otherwise the layer structure is lost).

This here is even easier, actually... after marking a selection, you can make it floating (the same state it is in when you cut it and paste it afterwards) with ctrl+shift+l (or via menu selection > floating). Then you can simply move it around and anchor it afterwards.

VB is back! VB is back!

*Weep of joy*

I downloaded Photoshop but the crack didn't work. I tried Gimp, managed to get some token on the map on a second layer but when I reloaded I couldn't move the damn the token anymore, they might as well have been painted on the background. In despair I had just completed a pretty good approximation with Excel of the map! Then a last listless check on VB and....

VB is back! VB is back!

Next round should be up within the hour.

I suppose what you did is save the whole thing in an image format, which is NOT what you should do. ;)

An image is just one flat layer.

You have to keep the map in the GIMP proprietary format (it's the only format that keeps the layers seperate) and export to save that as an image (Save a Copy; not Save or Save As).

That's really all there is to it. :D

Yep, those rolls for Garrick were quite sub par, indeed...

One question... shouldn't Leyra be at 68 hit points? Or am I missing something there?

73 last round, 81 after regen
81 - 8 (fireball) - 5 (vulnerability) = 68 ?

Also, IIRC we cannot look through the windows, without smashing them in (move action), correct?

Are the doors (near #7 #8 on the map) open?

73-8 = 65, not 66, so I did make a freaking basic math mistake. I also forgot the vulnerable to fire part so you shoud be at 60, thanks for reminding me. ;)

Regeneration kicks in at the start of your turn so you got no regeneration on the turn that you used Divine Power. You get those HP back when you act next and it will be factored in the next status update. Since nothing is likely to change your HP in the interval, I just edited it to 60 (73) making it the reverse of what happens with ongoing damage.

The door at 7 is opened (a guard just came out of it) the one at 8 is closed and for all you know is locked.

Yes, you need a move action to break a window (and either hard armor or a medium weapon to avoid cutting yourself; I think everyone but Garrick qualifies). The southernmost window has already been broken by Mirage.

I suppose what you did is save the whole thing in an image format, which is NOT what you should do.

Arg! I suck so much.
