29 years and counting

So I saw this other thread bragging(well deservidly so) and decided I might do a little of my own.

My D&D game has been running for 29 real face-to-face years and I stll have 2 original players, another guy whos been playing for 24 or so years and a pikeer thats only been around 4-6 years(not so good with dates)

The game is the 'Dungeon at the end of the universe'called Mysantia after its first and most infamus city. The first 2 years or so were an homage to'Thieves World" with slight Cthulu elements when it evolved into the ongoing atempt to stave off the permanant darkness of the Lovecraftian gods.

systems come and systems go so theres been a bit of reality altering and more time travel than you can shake a stick at.The group really gives the hounds of Tindalos a work out!
we delve into other games for a spell here and there but have played weekly for about 24 years with about 3 times a week for the first 3 years,
so figuring 150 games for the first 3 years and then approx 40 games a year thereafter i estamate we have played about 1500 sessions!(the rest of the time we play other things)

normally each part of the game takes about 3 years or so to get to 7th,but when we switched to 4th I told everybody as a treat I would take it to 30th(they are 21st now.).

Still going strong1 week in MT Holly NJ,I tried to change games but the players revolted so I guess they like battling Cthulu.

Most cool! I've been with the same group (with occasional breaks) for the last 16 years... but we're a fickle lot that jumps from game to game, and from campaign to campaign.

I'll raise a pint to that. Well done!

My group is similar in time, though we have not logged as many game days in those years. Kudos to you. Back in the day.... we reliably played every week. The last whatever years, we have been fortunate to play once per month.

Same homebrew world, though it has survived transitions from Holmes, AD&D, 3.0, & 3.5. Three of us have survived the 30 year intact. Over the years we have added some new friends. My none gamer wife even joined us 10 years ago! The most recent addition was my youngest son who is in his early 20s and old enough to play with the big folks. :)

I say huzzah to you and your friends. Brag all you want.

So, if I'm reading that right, you use the same setting and a continuing story but every now and then you start over with a new party?

Interesting way of doing it...

Any idea how many characters there have been, total?

That's great! :D

When I home in Merchantville over the holidays, I always try to get some old school gaming in with old friends. Good to know that there are others out there keeping the game alive for so long :D
