2e: What do I need?

Heh. I’m not sure I ever put mine in a MSWin machine at all. ^_^ The important thing (to me) was that the books were in RTF so I could make use of them with nigh any system.

Jakandor: A group of three books detailing a small campaign setting. You had the Knorr on one side (kind of American Native / Norse "savages") and the Charonti (sp?) on the other (High magic race who use thier dead for labor and have advances in all 8 schools of magic). both human, total opposites. I know I'm not doing it justice here though, it was great stuff.

Wow, I thought I Was the only one who remembered Jakandor, especially after I read the explanation of the setting in an issue of DRAGON a few years back, which totally screwed up the names of the tribes and whatnot.

Jakandor was an awesome setting - human only, magic-rich but magic-low by normal D&D standards, and totally suited towards what D&D does best: ruin explorations, violent duels against crazy monsters, and blowing stuff up.

The giant tribal mechs vs. Charonti undead giants was kind of silly, though - I nixed that.

I agree with most of your other setting recommendations, though I was never a huge fan of Planescape. Council of Wyrms is a fun sidetrek setting - I played a Silver Dragon named Freddie Mercury that was pretty fun.

Dark Sun is, and will probably forever be, my favourite setting of All Time.

Well, if nothing else, this thread has reminded me that there were a lot of awesome books for 2nd Edition. Indeed, I suddenly find myself wanting to run 2nd Edition again.

Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only game my players have adamantly refused to play.

I'm somewhere in the middle of this situation. I have some friends I really like to game with, and they won't play 2E with me for all the money in the world. I DM second edition games to other friends, but it's sad that our group is kind of broken if I want to use some of my favorite gaming stuff.
