"Light!" hisses Orinar to Kyl, hearing Lars's strike. Kyl opens the light...barely. He sets the light down and retreats a few steps behind it, hoping to find new shadows. The giantsblood leaps forward, slashing with his blade, and hoping his companion will light his path to aid his attack.

The goblinoid never knows what hits it. Orinar's blow cleaves it from collarbone almost to the waist. In the moments that follow, the party can still hear the noise from down the hall. No cries of alarm sound. It appears as if the sudden slaughter has gone unnoticed.

With a nod to Lars, Orinar kneels down in the dim light, next to the body. He pulls a hempen sack from his pack and lays it on the floor. Then, using his great blade, he easily severs the hobgoblins right hand at the wrist, and stuffs the hand into the sack. "A nice payday, that," he says in a whisper, with a wink to his companions. With the hand severed and bagged, the giantsblood quickly turns his attention to searching the body for valuables.

75gp for hobgoblin hands, I believe. :D

Lars whispers "Finish that quickly, then follow me quietly. Shutter the light when you follow, until my signal. Each one place a hand on the next fellow's shoulder so you don't get lost or bump into each other."

He wipes the bloody edge of his axe off on the felled hobgoblin's clothing, then drags the hobgoblin carefully halfway down the stairs. He focuses a moment to see if he can feel any evil radiating from the goblinoid, just to confirm his suspicions, and returns to the top of the stairway, walking quietly in the opposite direction from where the voices are coming from.

OOC: Head cold + students' final exams + egregious behavior from students with emotional disturbances + extra work for my online class = me being very tired. I'll update things ASAP. Meanwhile, you all can interact with each other in character. Won't that be fun!?

:D

Lars leads Orinar, Kyl, and Menno down the lightless corridor away from the voices. The paladin doesn't go far before he determines the hall in that direction dead ends. A search of the area fails to uncover any hidden portals.

It seems as if the party now faces a choice: back down the stairs past the hobgoblin corpse or else toward the voices.

OOC: Let's get everyone to chime in, especially Menno. I fear we've lost yet another player.
