[3.5] Archmages Affected, Spell Power Clarified!

I wonder if the pre-reqs will be the same. Two spell focusses and skill foucs spellcraft=3 crappy feats IMO. Before it was 3 feats I wouldn't normally take but at least two of them were ok.

One of my players pointed out that while the feats an Archmage has to take aren't really that great in standard play they are all prereqs for feats that are very common in Epic level play. (Greater Skill Focus in spellcraft for all that Epic casting, and Greater Spells Focus for all the really nasty epic monsters)

If you view Archmage as a goal it is fair, as waypoint on the path to epic might, it is actually really strong.

Epic Skill Focus does not require Skill Focus as a prerequisite.

And now with Andy Collins saying they should never have let Greater Spell Focus slip by - it seems rather silly, doesn't it?

Blech..... at the level that you have to be to even take archmage there isnt much point in getting the new spell power ...what a joke.... I like alot of 3.5 stuff, but not this

Little point? Despite the fact that by level 14, all of your opponents will have SR such that you can only expect your spells to get through 60% of the time? That applies straight through 20. You didn't take SR into account, did you?

heck not just SR but damage dice. It wont effect your empowered ocne of cold, but it does make those high level damage dealers a bit more powerful when they jump over 20d6. The over 20d6 cap was always kind of lame before since before epic you stopped at 20th level, now spells can have a cap higher than 20d6 and the players can reach it.

Sure its not a massive benefit when you gain it an extra 6 dice on 18 for example is only a 1/3 benefit but 21 points of damage is 21 points of damage.
