D&D 3.x 3.5 Devoted Defender?

Kid Charlemagne

I haven't seen a 3.5 Devoted Defender, and I'm statting up a bodyguard as a cohort for a PC... Actually, a Thrall for a psionic Thrallherd, but the point remains, is there a 3.5 Devoted Defender yet, and where?

If not, does anyone have other suggestions on bodyguard-like PrC's? I know the Dwarven Defender and the Knight Protector, but I'm interested in other options.

Look at the Tactical Soldier, in Miniatures Handbook (I think, if not it is in Compete Warrior). Some similarities to the Devoted Defender, but a little better.

Hi!

What about the Thayan Knight (CW), the Suel Arcanamach (CA), the Streetfighter (CV), the Duelist (DMG), the Menacing Brute (RoD), the Pious Templar (CD), or the Warrior of Darkness (BoVD)?

Kind regards

Ok, there is a reprint of Devoted Defender in Shinning South. I just picked it up yesterday. It is called the Maquar Crusader. It is a 10 level progression. They scaled back bonuses on both Deflect Attack and Defensive Strike to just +2.

One gains the following abilities:

Uncanny Loyalty: Grants bonus to Will saves and against all mind effecting spells.
Harm's Way: As per DD
Greater Weapon Focus: as per feat
Smite: As per paladin
Allied Defense: Any time he uses Combat Expertise, any adjacet allies gain the same bonus.
Defensive Strike: As per DD
Deflect Attack: As per DD, Reflex save DC 20+magic of weapon.

There are new requirements and they have a strict form of code.

The 3.5e Dwarven Defender is in the SRD and hence the DMG. ;)
The Dwarven Defender and Devoted Defender are two pretty different concepts. The Dwarven defender is good at defending territory at choke points (where the opposition don't have room to run around him). The Devoted defender is basically a bodyguard, and has abilities like "Harm's Way" that allows them to take a blow intended for their charge.
